Very sad and more so following the tragedy in France. R.I.P.

What type of aircraft, as six-seaters are somewhat uncommon in the GA community?

Little information available yet. It would appear to be a weather related accident and Dunkeswell is the highest licensed airfield in the UK.

Cherokee 6, Cessna 206 or 210?

Choices would be Bonanza 36, C.206 or a more expensive Piper?

N186CB, a Piper Malibu (PA46) has been suggested, possibly out of Fairoaks.

All the occupants are believed to be from the same family. From the Mirror photos, does this impact look like a flat spin event?

From the picture I saw it looks like a "pancake" impact. Debris field is very small.

I think that was what I meant by a 'flat spin'!

The full report should have details of his total experience and recent experience, as well as the weather report.

Any autopsy reports? Could be the pilot was incapacitated and someone else tried to fly the plane.

The full AAIB is out now.

It looks like a combination of a complex aircraft with the pilot a little behind it and who was also pushing his luck in marginal weather on a home-made 'instrument' approach to a field with no procedure.

He had health issues but they are not seen as a factor.

All very sad.

Is it my imagination or, is 2016 a rather more than bad year for GA fatalities ?

And the relevance of that when talking of a 2015 accident is?

That apart, I haven't been conscious of it being a particularly bad year, no.

My mistake. I misread the date. I've arranged a new appointment with Specsavers.

Nevertheless, the Dunkeswell one was a particularly bad one as it was wholly avoidable. And bad enough to kill yourself by trying to cheat the odds, but to take your entire family with you is pretty unthinkable.
