Someone on Pprune has commented that there might be a postponement till 2021 of the changeover to 8.33.

There is a link to an announcement which is in French. Perhaps a forum linguist could have a look at it ?

Both German and Dutch authorities have repeatedly stated they won't be postponing, and expect visiting aircraft to carry 8.33 KHz as well... So far for a united Europe.

Does anyone have experience of using either the Trig 96A or the Icom 220 panel radios ? I'm interested in the lighting brightness of the frequency display window particularly in bright direct sunshine.

AFE tell me that they have Trig's on display and connected to a power source but at the moment no Icom's available until at least the middle of next month - Feb.

Think the Spit has Trig in, will ask, also don't forget there is supposed to be a pot of monies available for this where you can recoup 20% from.

Thanks for that Tony. Info on the EU pot of gold seems at the moment to be a bit light on detail.

Someone on AFORS is advertising an 'upgrade' from 25 to 8.33. I gather they've placed the ad to garner interest. I've sent an e-mail enquiry for more info but, as yet, heard nothing.

After trying retail therapy, I'm in need of some therapy !

Last month (Jan). I phoned a aviation supplies shop at Kidlington. My interest was in one of two possibilities, both panel mounted 8.33 radios; a Trig 96 or an Icom 220. Apart from transmitting power and switchable between 8.33 and 25.0KHz my foremost need was for a display that I could read in bright sunshine.

I asked Kidlington whether they had these radios in stock and whether they were hooked up to a power source. They said that they had the Trig but nor the Icom. They expected an Icom to be available this month (Feb). Needless to say, that when I phoned Kidlington for an update, they still did not have the Icom.

I then phoned another aviation supplies shop at Shoreham and put the same question. A very pleasant and generally helpful assistant said that they had the Trig 96 but not the Icom and they would not be displaying any of them wired into a power source.

I asked if they'd mind if I brought with me a battery and a couple of crocodile clipped cables to illuminate the frequency display ? The assistant said that would be acceptable ! She apologised for not being more helpful.

DIY retailing has arrived. This principle has unlimited opportunities.

Can anyone help with finding an Icom 220 ? I've tried: AFE. Transair, and a supplier at Turweston. This set seems to rarer than a midwife in a nunnery.

Thanks for all that Tony. I'll contact them. I did ring Icom in Kent. They said they didn't have a single set to offer and were waiting for a delivery from the States in Heaven knows when ! They implied that a single distributor (Harry M) in Edinburgh had taken a large delivery recently.

I did send LX avionics an e-mail but they haven't responded.

Tony,

Jst spoken to Adams, they don't have at the moment, either radio. They will be getting more 220's but not the Trig 96 because they do not hold a Trig dealership.

Got thru to LX at Turweston. They can do the Trig on powered display. They've got the 220 but won't put it on powered display because it might get scratched which then renders it second hand. Their words.

When our avionics refit is finished at Turweston it has been suggested I should stick my head around the door at LX.

Moggy

(At the present rate of progress 8.33 will be obsolete by then)

Tony,

I've been thru' the list but no complete answer. I spoke to Sharmans and mentioned your name at which point the phone went down ! Just joking. He recommends the Trig 96 and reckons that there'll be no difficulty with the display brightness.

Many thanks for the contact.
