When they move into the new hangar they are having built at EGNX.... If so, what a waste.

Been up since Feb but I couldn't see the point of posting them until it got closer to the date, sad I know but I read all the planning permissions for the village. :highly_amused:

https://plans.nwleics.gov.uk/public-access/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=OKCE95LR09O00

this shows it as a Simulator..

It seems that the Café that is going to have to be relocated might struggle as they are rumoured to be getting wacked with large bills through no fault of their own...

For those who don't know the British register by heart G-ALGT is a Spitfire F Mk. XIVc, crashed in 1992 under rebuild since. AKA RM 689

Its been stored for a long time . Some work has been done on it. It would be a waste if it were an intact Spitfire -however the crash sequence ensured that its very much not.

Quite so - the fuselage in question is a new-build one. The reconstruction was well advanced before it was shelved. The simulator project seems like a sensible application for it.

So much the same as most other Spitfires: in fact more of the original left than most, so in my humble opinion more deserving of a return to flight.

Which of the two RR aircraft is the trio of pictures of and when? (Choice of XIV and XIX)

That is the MK 14 when it was moved from Filton to East Mids for storage. About 1012 to 2012 time.

Bizarre if true - whilst it was clearly hugely reconstructed, it had been done with the intention of flight in due course, and at not inconsiderable cost. Its value as it stands is not insignificant - they would be better off trading it out for a purpose built simulator.

Tony - I saw it with a rebuilder in Norfolk in the early 2000s - the nature of the crash at Woodford put paid to an awful lot of it.

I saw it here David when they recovered it back after the crash. Agreed there was not a lot left, but as with most spit rebuilds they tend to end up as a new aircraft with a few old bits tacked onto it.

If you look at the plans there appears to be a "flyable" one and the simulator.

Part of me would find it pretty gruesome sitting in Dave Moore's seat.

But looking at what would appear above to be a completely new-build fuselage, it isn't really.

And thank you Trumper for remembering the important stuff.

For those who have forgotten what it looked like, here is a picture of RM689 taken at Duxford in 1990

I have the tailwheel tyre from this A/C (removed before the crash I hastened to add) perhaps they are worried about a legal challenge over the identity?

From what little I know of Mike Evans, his retirement from RR was a great loss. Not just to RR but to anyone with an interest in the aviation history of this country. A great guy, I believe.
