It's probably me being dilatory but, if something doesn't appear to work easily I usually blame myself, but resent the designers of such devices and consider them to be "fixing somethin' that aint broken".

For instance; I have just posted on the "Holiday Snaps From Narsarssuak" thread, which then states, on the main index page, that there are no replies to it. Including my own, there are five.

Also, having a look at Blue_2's latest tribulations with his beloved Meteor I found that I either have to click the forward button on the pages 64 times to get to page 64, or I highlight the page number, put in the page number I want then press return. It was easier before and quite straightforward. Why change it?

Mumbling discontentedly, Anon.

It's 100% Horrendous!!! A Cyberman could design better. It's cold, flat and sluggish.

Whenever I click on the link below, I see that the latest post in the Historic Forum is dated today, by Nicko, in the "Projects wants and trades" thread, yet when I proceed into the Historic Forum itself, that thread is nowhere to be seen?

Before I even get to that first page though, I get a really annoying error page telling me that the site is not secure and I have to add it to Firefox as an exemption. Every time!

This is getting worse and worse.

To leave a 'story' and go back to the initial page listing all stories or threads now takes me 27 seconds. I have (lucky me) download speed of 34 MB upload of 4MB. Looking at the the Goodwood Revival thread and seeing the Lysander short clip - what happens? I press the 'go arrow', the still shot disappears, after four minutes nothing has started to run. Just a blank space in that item where the still image was previously.

Is it time to depart from this Forum ?

Couldn't agree more. Everything is slow to load and trying to go back to the main menu takes forever. Looking at a long running thread like Duxford Diary, yes you can use the " doodad" but that takes you to the last post so you them have to scroll up to find out what's being talked about. Maybe I'm just a cynical Luddite, but the previous layout was much more user friendly to my way of operating. Many of my Warbird Industry colleagues are saying the same thing but in less pc phraseology...

Something is not right. The loading of pages is ponderously slow, like being back in the dial-up era. The default text size is just too small.

I know people always whine about change, but the present incarnation is not working well, and is not settling down. For better or for worse, over the last 15 years, this has been the 'go-to' forum for historic news/comment/debate, and hopefully can continue to do so. The volume and quality of archived material is beyond compare, and must be preserved in an accessible form.

I hope the web team can keep plugging away to get it properly back on its feet, and the membership can hang on, and keep it buzzing.

Use the small blue icon next to the thread title (see my post #8 above) to take you to the FIRST new unread post in the thread. Ignore the "doodad" on the right (which actually only takes you to the most recent post, and last post in a thread, of the member listed).

Re font size, browsers permit users to "zoom in" to increase font size - e.g. Chrome browser zoomed into 125% increases font size without enabling the horizontal scroll bar on my 13" MacBook.

There has definitely been a slow down in the load times for the forum.

The header page does not immediately update and indicate latest posts, tonight lagging nearly two hours behind . This is pretty dis-functional and must be remedied.

I'm fairly sure that the old design was broken, just not in ways that were obvious to the user - apart from when it crashed for days at a time, remember that? And if security was outdated, things like user passwords could be recoverable - again not obvious to users.

Re page numbers, you can also scroll to the bottom of the page, and select the page number button you want. Every other forum design I can remember seeing in recent years has specific buttons for the first page and last page, generally at both top and bottom of the displayed page (rather than different interfaces at the top and bottom of the page). Also when I go select last post or first new post from the entry for Duxford Diary on the Topics page, it only admits to the existence of 13 pages (up to June). I have to use other options to actually see recent posts in that thread.

Are you getting to the forum using that exact link (https: and .com)? Or a saved link to the old .co.uk address?

ErrolC,
My post appears as the latest when you go to the keypublishing forum home page - the one where you get to pick from the different forums. It happened to me when I clicked on 'home' near top left from this very thread page. I did a search for my post referred to by Air Ministry, and found it. I made my post on 13th September and it does not appear on the Historic Aviation page that lists the threads by latest. As I'm posting from Australia, maybe there is a problem in interpreting time stamps; maybe when I posted, it thought my time stamp was GMT and therefore in the future, impossible and therefore unpublishable on the index page!!!
See what happens with this post...

Hi All,
It seems to take an eon to load replies but once loaded the editing is much faster, another problem is sometimes it just keeps displaying working even when reply posted and one last thing is I use a pc and each time I move from thread to thread or section to section the curser seems to have a fit as if someone else is trying to hack my pc (Which it isn't) apart from that no other gripes.....;)

Note. There is a dedicated 'Forum Issues' Forum at the bottom of the Forum List page!

There is indeed, and I have tried to move this thread into it, but that doesn't work either.

I have been flagging up issues as they come up to the webmaster, and some things have been dealt with - we will have to be patient for a little longer I think.

Main issues seem to be:

Its very slow to load (Currently much better)

Thread page numbers have disappeared (now fixed)

Issues with uploading pictures from third party sites.

Avatars have disappeared, or are not being picked up correctly.

Statistics don't work properly - this thread currently shows 7 replies, but it has 24!

Feel free to note any others underneath and I will add them to this post.
