When did Iraqi MiG-25s fly at mach 3 in combat? I don't think they flew at Mach 3 during Desert Storm.
Nobody really knows. I just only saying that MiG-25 is capable to fly way above 3M. In combat situations it's only marginally slower than SR-71, but much more capable in all other aspects of flight. It's common mistake that 2.83M is MiG's max speed (and it was mentioned on previous pages). It's only a safe limit, and flying above that is nothing suicidal like it's popular internet belief says.

The Indians flew one at over M3.0 over Pakistan one time I think.
The heat-limit is Mach 2,83 and Mach 2,35 the range-speed high up. Going behind that limits briefly is possible, but you are out of order for some time in doing so. All ordinary Mach 2+ fighters run into the heat limit above Mach 1,8 and reach Mach 2,6 very briefly utmost.

Yes, I read that once - but normally the IAF flew their MiG-25s at M 2.5 or so. At M 3.0 the MiG would have no combat range at all.

Indeed and they warped the HP turbine, which is why they're normally limited to M2.83.
