Went to look at the prices for Members for the BoB airshow and found I cannot book them as my membership runs out on August the 31st. On top of this I cannot renew until within 30 days of the expiry date! I have to book accommodation and the earlier this is done the better. Without a solution this is going to happen every year. Suppose could let the membership lapse and take it out again in the winter and just not bother with the show this year.

The story so far, my email to members office

"Hi,

I am unable to book tickets for the BoB show as my membership ends on the 31st August and cannot be renewed until 30 days before expiry. I need to book accommodation and this needs to be done ASAP. This will also be the case every year. Also, assuming that Members tickets qualify for the draw, I will also miss out on this. I feel sure that this must be the position for a lot of people.

The only solution I can see from my end is to allow my membership to lapse, not go to the airshow and renew membership out of the airshow season.

I wonder if you have realised this situation and whether you can come up with a better solution.

Kind regards,"

I am not sure about the etiquette about posting the reply and I have not sort permission so I will summarise.

An apology for late reply. They are experiencing technical issues with the members access and are working on solution.
Will get back to me when solution found.

The reason I posted the text that I sent is to illustrate that it, well at least I hope, cannot be readily misunderstood. The reply is such that it is not clear if the problem I raised is being addressed.

I will post again when I hear more.

I obviously tried and had the same problem so I contacted Friends and have had a reply from Lauren Woods which hopefully might help a bit. She confirmed that they were having problems with the portal and that the technical guys were endeavoring to sort it out. I asked about the renewal issue and she told me that you would NOT have to renew early if your membership runs out before the show takes place (Just as in the old FOD days) and that she would let me know when the issues were sorted. Hopefully this info might help a bit and if I hear any more I will post the reply.

Had another email today, very apologetic, but the systems provider has not been able to resolve the problem so far. If the problem has not been resolved next week then they will start taking telephone bookings. Assured that there will be tickets available and would be in contact next week with a further update.

Presumably if the members portal is up and running members will be able to purchase tickets even if the membership runs out before that date as that was the original problem. It may well be they had not understood that some members would want to purchase airshow tickets well in advance which is not experienced at other IWM venues.

Had virtually the same reply as paul1867 regarding the portal problems but they didn't mention the possibility of taking telephone bookings if the problems continue so thanks for the heads up on that Paul. as far as them misunderstanding that members would want to purchase tickets well in advance I would have thought they would have learnt that from the FOD days but who knows.

With the deadline approaching for inclusion in the draw I contacted DX for an update. The problem is still not fixed and is unlikely to be fixed any day soon. Telephone bookings will be possible from tomorrow the 22 February on 020 7091 3043. Let us hope this goes well. When you call do not forget to be placed in the draw.

Have received a call this morning and I am now all booked and entered into the draw. Well done the team under difficult circumstances.
