Popham are advertising their annual 'jumble on 6th May Described as Aero-auto jumble, classic car rally and vintage fly-in.

The show attracts over 40 exhibitors

Sadly, I can recall when there would be 40 aerojumblers alone at this event, never mind the autojumblers who attended in similar numbers.

Based on reports from the past few years, expect a few aero stalls, maybe.

The Boscombe Down folks are hosting their 7th Aerobilia at Old Sarum on May 19th. A good event if you are reasonably local.

Please don't forget it's Newark's first Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble of the 2019 season tomorrow (Saturday 13th April) - the event has sold out and the museum is hopeful that lots of buyers will be attending! A quick guide to the sale can be found by following this weblink!

A cracking day at the NAM aeroboot today. Not, perhaps, as many people as there has been but certainly quite well attended.

Weather was a bit cool but bright. Visitors to the stall many. Friends met, lots. The craik, plentiful. Items bought, great value. Panini from the cafe, excellent. And the Phantom cockpit was behaving itself and looking as mean as ever in the spring sunshine.

All-in-all a splendid day, and great to meet up with everyone in the first event of the season. Thanks, Howard, Colin et al.

A big thank-you also to Paul Wright and Matt Gilby for their help on the stall. Just echoing everything Mike says. A great day but a bit quieter than usual at the Spring event?

Very noticeable after twelve noon (cough cough)....:rolleyes:

I have seen the initial posts and will respond in detail when things have settled down after a busy Harrier event today!

A few basic bits of feedback:
- paid buyer admissions down by 30 from spring 2018 (better weather last year?);
- 2 no show sellers this time as compared to 4 in spring 2018;
- extra helper passes this time round = more buyers;
- museum's own sales numbers in Hangar 2 best ever;
- more summer bookings already in as compared to previous years;
- personally dealt with one complaint about lack of sellers in afternoon - but will raise topic of pack up time with trustees again.

More another day!

I thought it was as great as ever! The car park was rammed so surprised numbers down? Definitely better in this later weekend IMHO- picked up a few nice treasures as ever the traders with sensible prices seemed to do well those with aspirations seem to leave with the same stock- . Well done Howard and team! ATB TT

As promised I am now in a position to share a few more thoughts on last Saturday’s Indoor Aeroboot at Newark.

TT – as previously posted the paid admissions were down slightly as compared to the sale in April 2018; but they were up as compared to the autumn 2019.

NAM’s car parking guru was also not on site last weekend, so the area in the Southfield Site was a bit more disorganised than normal, which may also add to feel of it being extra busy in that area.

Having been in the car park for most of the morning it was noticeable that there were more single occupancy cars than normal and a few Aeroboot regulars did not attend (although I missed a few people). On the plus side it was noticeable that there were far more movements of good to vehicles during the sale, which would indicate good trade was taking place.

Hosting the event does cause NAM some hassle in the form negative feedback from its regular visitors and last weekend this included negative feedback via email and on Google Reviews! So I would respectfully suggest that we all have to be very careful what we wish for around the organisation of these sales!!

Last weekend the admission fees were up slightly as compared to a normal Saturday in April, so whilst there are extra ‘visitors’ that does not translate to extra revenue, due to the lower admission fee to compensate for the exhibits in Hangar 2 not being viewable in a satisfactory manner.

There was additional income from café and shop sales, but it does not necessarily translate to a huge ‘profit’ towards museum funds. One significant plus this time round was extra funds from sales of non-accessed items on the museum’s own sales table; and I have been asked to thank those who made purchases from the museum sales table alongside the Wessex.

The opening hours for the sale are never going to suit everyone, with different sellers preferring to have the sale hours until 2pm. I will get these hours formally reviewed by the trustees so that decision is taken in time for the autumn indoor sale.

All things considered I personally believe that it was quite a good sale and with how things went. Details for the summer outdoor sale alongside Cockpit-Fest will be going live on the NAM website in the next 48 hours.

I'm really looking forward to spending some money at Popham and hoping there will be a good number of [aero] sellers...! ;-)

I won't be going to Popham this year. It's been getting less & less aviation stalls every year & last year was just the worst I can remember.

Going to Popham all booked, don't know about other Aviation stalls, but I have decided to have a clear out-down size of collection, Mainly Hurricane related Relics, Prints and Books,
but also other Aircraft Relics collected over the years. First time having a Stall so hope it will be a good day.

Yes I’m off to Popham as well, one of the few aerojumbles to be held on an active airfield. If the aerojumble stalls are low then there are plenty of distractions such as classic car gatherings and visiting aircraft to wonder around.
