Returning to Flight Sim after a lapse. Before purchase of FS2020 would like to know the following please:-

1.  CD discs or download which is best?

2. Updates are these free and how do you receive them when they are issued?

Hi,

I would say the DVD vs download question depends on your internet speed and if you have a monthly cap as the initial download is around 80GB. There are also the updates that come out every 1 to 2 weeks and vary between 10 to 20GB in size roughly although the frequency seems to have slowed down.

The updates are free and you get them via the Microsoft Store so you will need an account there for the download version. I don't have the DVD version but I assume you got through the same process, it is just the initial install which you get from the DVDs.

Hi Richard

Hope you don't mind but could I ask you one further question. What sort of joystick do you use?

Hi,

I use a several different ones. The Thrustmaster T.160000 or Airbus sidestick is a good budget controller. Very robust and will last for years. For something more upmarket, the Thrustmaster Warthog is one of my favourites. If you are after a yoke, the Honeycomb Alpha is the best on the market in my opionon. They currently have a parts shortage so there is a bit of a waiting list. The next batch is due in the spring according to Aerosoft.

Hi Richard

Once again many thanks for your suggestions. Had seen the Airbus ones. Looks as though I will go the box sets and the Airbus joystick.

Many thanks for your excellent advice

Good luck :-) What is your computer spec? You will need a fairly hefty graphics card to get Microsoft Flight Sim to run at good frame rates.
