Hi,

Has anyone anything at all showing what the interior details were on the Lancaster B1 special, they lightened the Lancaster somewhat, and may also have added some extra goodies, they were used to drop the Grandslam and also the Tallboy bombs. Any help appreciated for the restoration of a B1 Special !

I also have seen some models of the B1 Special sporting a paler green and Brown than standard Lancasters, Tiger Moths featured Light Green and Light Earth on the lower wings upper surfaces, and maybe the B1 Specials adopted those colours, though the Tiggie did so as shadow from the upper wings would make the lower appear as the upper. Does anyone know truly what the paint scheme was ?

SAM publications books seems to agree with colours plus ocean grey underside, the is a photo and swatches of these colours do occur in original copy of  aircraft of the fighting powers volume 5 .

I think these aircraft operated out of RAF Woodhall Spa ,  you may be lucky and find the museum there has some wreakage with original paint? I visited last year but cannot recall

Hi

Which SAM Publication book should I look  at, I have 1600 books so may have it.

I have the RAF Museum Series Vol 3 British Aviation Colours of WW2 with the genuine MAP paint chips  in the back, which if referred to in AC of FP v5 will provide the colours .

As for aircraft fuselage interior details, anyone know of anything ?

We are currently recreating a B1 Special at Old Sarum and have faced similar shortages of information! I am happy to share what little I have discovered. Please contact me if I can help. The B1 Special that we are recreating is PD130, YZ-U, which was flown by Laurence "Benny" Goodman on the Arnsberg viaduct raid in March 1945. Sadly, Benny passed away in July of this year. The attached photos show the current status and also the visits to the project by Benny and Wing Commander John Bell. The latter explained the workings of the SABS, the special bomb sight used in the B1 Specials.
