-Got a few odd ones;
Rod Stewart's "First Cut Is The Deepest" - covered by Sheryl Crow
"Mr Bojangles" - covered by Robbie Williams
Cockney Rebel's "Come Up And See Me" - bizarrely, covered live by Duran Duran and featured as a B side on one of their singles in the early eighties.

-Oh it has to be Time after Time by Distand Soundz! They made the extremely boring Cyndie Lauper version just a lil bit more interesting! ;)

-Stand By Your Man in the Blues Brother's version is brilliant, the rest of the music from that film is perfectly boring.
Other ones:
Guantanamera - Die Toten Hosen
I fought the law - The Clash
Wonderful World - Nick Cave & Shane McGowan
Hang on to your ego - Frank Black
La Bamba - both Los Lobos' and Rancid are better than Richie Valens' one IMHO.
Drinking and driving - Dropkick Murphies (the one from the Business sounded authentically drunk, but DM's is more militant).

-What about Johnny Cash doing Nine Inch Nails "Hurt" ? Also Tori Amos doing the Boomtown Rats "Don't Like Mondays" In fact there's hardly a bad track on that Tori Amos covers album.

I like Johnny Cash's version of Highway Patrolman originally done by Bruce Springsteen on his Nebraska album. When he covered songs he put his mark on them and made them his.

This was itself a cover version, a Cat Stevens song, it was originally done by PP Arnold back in 1967.
"Mrs. Robinson" by the Lemonheads is a good cover, also "Handbags and gladrags" another Rod Stewart "cover," orignally done by Chris Farlow in 1966.

-Originally posted by Ren FrewTotally agree - on the Johnny Cash cover of 'Hurt' (so different, so prophetic) and the whole Tori Amos album.

That reminds me, a little known UK band called Warm Jets did a blinding version of The Model a few years ago. They were touted as the next bright young things to emerge from the a*se end of the "Brit Pop" era, sadly they didn't go very far.

Here's a counterpart to Flood's other thread. What are your favorite cover songs?
Here's some of mine...
Megadeth-Problems (Sex Pistols)-I think they actually pulled this one off a lot better than their "other" Pistols cover
Dee Snider-Go To Hell (Alice Cooper)
Fear Factory-School (Nirvana)-thoroughly amusing :D
Monster Magnet-Into The Void (Black Sabbath)-flat out rocks
Megadeth-These Boots (Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazlewood)-if you haven't heard it, go find it. You will laugh. A lot. :D
Hey Kabir, does this one count as a cover? Metallica-The Four Horsemen ;)
