Thought I'd be the first to reply on here as no-one else seems to be replying. Interesting report, I really want to get myself on a 777! I'm sure you've probably passed through Changi many times before, but how do you rate it? I visited twice in May, and thought it was an ecellent airport. Had 4 hours to kill, and even then I only just had enough time to go on the sky strain and look at both terminals, it's so huge!

Just looking at that map, you showed the black line which is the usual route. I flew along that route between Frankfurt and Singapore, and over the Andaman islands. The Andaman islands look great as you pass over them, some tiny ones but then also a few large groups.

Great flight report Kabir. I'd love to experience SQ and especially if it were to Oz. Do you go back to Oz soon or are you back in India for a while?

I go back to Oz on 22nd, i was here for a work experience programe.
Changi is a great airport, something or the other is always happening. I go through it very often and have never tired out. Well except once where my wait was 12 hours. :eek: .
And Ren yes i have her autograph and pics...i was with her for 20 minutes, i even asked if she had extra NY tickets and she sweetly said no. :p

I really like Changi. Very Big! And loads of duty free shopping too. Free internet terminals, and a couple of comfortable BIG TV viewing areas and even a cinema upstairs! Can sympathise on the gates there, they are numerous, and when I first went there last year I couldn't believe how long it took to get mine even with the escalator walk ways. Felt like more than half a kilometre!
I got to see a very different side of the airport last November. On my departure to Tokyo in the morning with SQ12, the check-in system went down and was down for hours! We pretty much all had to be checked in manually, and most flights were delayed as a result. I got to the check-in counter lineup at about 7:30am, and only left there at 9:15am! Our flight had to be moved to another part of the tarmac and away from the gate to make way for incoming flights. So, the whole lot of us, group by group, ended up on an airport bus and were driven to 747-400. We then boarded the old fashioned way! Classic! Didn't have my camera with me then - BUMMER!
In Tokyo we got an apology letter and a really nice pen as their way of saying sorry which I thought was nice, but by then I just wanted to get to the Hotel and sleep!

SQ is just pure dominance in there service, last time i got ****ed when they served me just boiled chicken and made a compltain i actualy got an apology letter by the chef and he told me to put in whatever i wanted to eat when i travel SQ next, no matter what it is. :)
And Setve i always fly SQ so i dont get to goto Qantas terminal.

Forgot to mention. Love the toilets in the B777, the biggest I have seen! You can actually walk around in there. :)

I quite agree, theres actually space in 777 toilets, unlike the 747 ones.

Getting up early to catch a flight is one thing i hate. But really didnt have a choice. SQ 238 was destined to depart at 1010AM from MEL, with the airport being well over an hours drive from my University. Leaving Uni at 6:30AM and arriving at around 7:20 AM i was hoping to get some good seats. I got a good isle from MEL-SIN but had to face the wrath of the middle seat on the SIN-DEL sector. After checking in had 2 hours to kill. Since MEL doesent have a decent spotting area anywhere Duty Free shops were the main means of passing time. It was announced that our flight would be half an hour late due to late arrival. That wasent good news for me because roaming around in duty fre shops my wallet was getting lighter. Finally boarding was announced at around 10:15 AM and we were airborne. SQ's top-notch service makes flying just an increadible expirience. Served with great meals and entertainment system. And my luck continues of having some pretty girls sitting next to me on my flights :D , so it made it much more interesting. The food on board SQ 238 was delicious with a choice of roast chicken and BBQ ham. The flying time was covered onto Singapore with the flight catching a good jet-stream. I was awake throughtout the flight as sleeping during a day flight is just not possible for me, soe great movies, sitcoms and music kept me entertained throughout. The flight was not bumpy even for a minute, it was a smooth butter ride all the way through. We landed in Singapore 2 hrs 30 minutes before my connecting flight to DEL.
On Transit - I had just around 2 hrs 30 minutes to kill before my flight to DEL. Roaming around Changi, watching reruns of the Euro2004 matches and meeting Toby Maquire and Kirsten Dunst of the Spiderman fame is how those few hours were killed. My gate for the DEL flight was F 58 whcih was just at the other corner of Changi and is a fair bit of a walk. After reaching F 58 i learned the gate has been changed to E 28, which is where i started from, which was pretty annoying.

This flight, like my last one was choked till the last seat, i requested for another seat to get away from sitting in the middle and the attendant told me there was no scope for a seat transfer. So i just had to do this 5 hr 10 min. flight in the middle seat, and am proud to say i survived :) . SQ 408 took off strait into a brewing storm on time. While we took off lightning and thunder was all around us and it was one hell of a bumpy take off. Soon after i noticed due the storm the flight plan of SQ 408 had been changed to avoid the tropical storm. The usual flight plan is touching kampuchean cost, over Bay of bengal and strait into Northern India. But this time instead of entering through Northern India the aircraft entered pretty much through Southern India, brushing the city of Chennai (As shown in the map, the black one is the usual route and the red one the alternative). SQ has these two routes to Delhi which it sometimes shifts back and forth.
This flight was an eventful one with a mild case of air rage. A Indian-Sikh who was kind of drunk created trouble by slapping the passenger in front of him. He was actualy hand cuffed to his seat for the restof the flight and later handed over to the Police waiting on the apron on arrival into Delhi. This last leg of my journey was a tiring one. But as usual the service on board SQ was upto there standards. We landed in Delhi right on time, and Delhi welcomed me with a mile long immigration line, but it was good to be back home.
