Just thinking what might be said on the flight deck of this B52.
"Holy smoke guys, thats the 8000 mtr marker and we are still doing 200 kts"

This is easy :

Captain : Navigator we are at the 8000 mark, drop the anchor now

If you can't stop even a B-52 after 8,000m then you have failed Landing 1.01 big time! I would think that marker is more like 8,000ft. :)

Yes, I know its 8000ft, that was (supposed to be) part of the 'joke'.

Somethings not right here!

Did anyone else notice the lean on the aircraft? It's like the fuel tanks on one side are still full and the ones on the other side aren't :/

RE: Somethings not right here!

quite likely thats from the crosswind component lifting one wing up-consequently forcing the other down- easily noticeable on droopy long wings like this and the TR2

For a U-2, this would be deadly. Land somewhere else.

Another reason for the B-52 leaning so much in a cross wind is the narrow track of the main landing gear, and the fact that the wings tanks are probably almost empty so they don't sag as much as when full, thereby reducing contact of the outriggers with the runway surface. Ta Dah! Dazza

Correct, with empty wing tanks it is higly unusual for a b-52 tp taxi on both outer pogo wheels. Mostly only one reaches the ground. And at the speed like shown in the pic it there is still some lift that makes one wing go up, which in turn makes the other go down.

RE: somethings not right here

you'll also notice that the brake chute is veered to one side, because of the side wind.

geforce,

the coanda effect was founded, by the reports that i have read by a german aerodynamicist. it channels turbulent air over surfaces, and has more than a little to do with leading edge vortices- it manipulates these to help create lift. This is different to bernoullis explanation of lift, where a pressure difference creates a force out of equilibrium- thus lift. bernoullis equation does not stand up therefore, for symmetrical wing sections, which are seen on many aerobatic aircraft, and laminar flow wing sections ala p51 and martinbaker MB5 so, you have other forces- these leading edge vortices, which help create lift!!
