Just returned from a wonderfull holidays in Thailand where I flew KLM, because there´s almost nothing safest than the "Dutch reliable airline". Well the weather the whole flights was not really nice despite being august. The connection flight was on a B737-800 and still a free service. Only a big chicken or cheese bum, drinks, biscuits and coffee in a two hours hop. The intercontinental flights were on B747-400M Combi in a really packed cabin. Seats are a pain and flight uneventfull. I have to say that I hate the B747 when they take off and are quite loaded....long runs, slow take offs, and quite noisy. It seems that they can´t really climb. Inflight service is quite conventional but meals quite OK. Beautiful stewardesses in all flights and three films (Starsky & Hutch, The Day After...the one of the big waves, and the Prince and Me). No individual screens on tourist class, but plenty on inflight information in the ceiling ones. The flight back was delayed 30 minutes for a big Moonzon over BKK.

...and also a nice long hot cheese, egg and tomato pita bread sandwitch which was handed out by flight attendants with the tiny box on the picture.

I'm off to New York on Thursday on one of those shiny new B777s. KLM seem miles behind their competitors with the standard of econ. seating/IFE on their a/c. Only the 7 x B777s have PTVs; the MD11s have ancient interiors and the B747-400s aren't much better. You were lucky to get on a B737-800 on the MAN-AMS service; these are usually 300/400s.
