I had a fun couple of days this week helping out in the recently acquired Omega 707 currently based at Prestwick which was bought from the Indonesian Air Force.

The inside needed a good clean and was a bit wiffy too so 6 of us set about it with cleaning fluid and Jiffys doing our best to remove as much of the grime as possible and put some shine on the interior walls.

I was back for a second day (the morning only) to finish off detatching the seats from the floor to have them ready for removal, let's say they are well past their best now.

Once the maintenance work is complete it will be flying off to Arizona for fitting out for connversion into a Tanker so we may see it back here later in the year working when the JMC meets comes around as one is usually based for about a week to tank Fighter aircraft.

Here are some photos taken over the two days.

Good stuff Fred. So you were one of the lucky so and so's that got the cleaning gig ? (lol) :)

Did you get any of the An-124 that was parked nearby and indeed were you one of the (also) lucky so and so's that got a look inside ?

Yes we had a look around the UAE AN124 which parked very close to the 707, I will put on a few more shots in a couple of minutes including two of the 124.

Unfortunately I didn't know that my built in Flash in the D60 wasn't working properly so the two photos of the 707 cockpit were taken using a camera borrowed briefly from one of the other guys.

I didn't manage any cockpit shots of the AN124 due to no Flash but got a couple of the Cargo hold before we left.

Here are another 5 shots from the two days at Prestwick.

1.The Virgin A340 was here for more than 6 hours doing circuits.
2.AN124 at 28mm seconds after it had parked, pity the weather was poor at the time.
3.Inside view of the AN124 that came up from Stansted empty to lift Cargo at Prestwick.
4.This Ryanair 737-200 has only one engine attached on it's starboard side.
5.There are no engines on the standard coloured RYR 737-2 but "
Kilkenny" was behind it and is still intact, it did engines runs again last week.

Nice pics, great aircraft the 707. Cabin looks in fair shape for the vintage.

Great shots as ever Fred, EI-COA must be a pretty recent addition to the scrap heap?

Inside of the cabin isn't too bad looking but there are quite a few loose things to be repaired such as overhead panels, handles on the exits fittings etc but no bad considering what I thought it could have been.

Apparently it was built near the end of the line about 1980 or 81, I'm not too well up on those sort of details but this 707 doesn't have a lot of hours on it.

It will probably have about 20 seats in it after alterations as far as I hear and likely have a couple of compartments installed at the front and rear.

As for Ryanair 737 EI-COA I hadn't noticed it during the previous day and didn't realise at first that it had only one engine on it, there are only two of them with registrations showing now this one and the "Kilkenny" EI-CNY.

The two 737's on the North side in the temporary fenced compound have now been scrapped and their fuselages taken away down South on Flatdeck's so this looks like the work completed for the time being.

With the others all still here I suppose work might start on scrapping them after the New Year but I haven't heard anything on that.

As "Jaguar" has not had engines on it for many weeks now I expect it will be for the chop as well and as it's been so popular with shooters over the years I'll be making an effort to get some shots of it being scrapped.
