Here is a transcript of Kevin's e-mail to Air Scotland applauding their decision to utilise their only aircraft at the request of the Swedish goverment to transport sick and injured Swedish nationals home from the tsumami devastated area of Sri Lanka.

As requested by Kevin, it will become a sticky for a period and any appropriate reply posts will be printed and forwarded to Air Scotland in Glasgow.

"To the Management, Staff and Crews of Air Scotland.

We are a group of enthusiasts who use the Airliner World forum hosted by Key Publishing Limited.

The whole world is shocked and saddened by the disaster in South Asia, the numbers of dead, injured and missing become ever more incomprehensible. In these dark and disastrous days, humanity is pulling together to try and relieve the suffering of those affected.

There is no greater evidence of this than the sterling effort made by Air Scotland in the repatriation of Swedish Nationals. Expecting stranded passengers, the aircraft then became an ambulance. Many people owe their lives to the extraordinary efforts of the crew involved.

Both the crew and the airline are worthy of our praise, respect and our gratitude. Many of us can do little more than put our hands in our pockets but Air Scotland made a supreme humanitarian effort in a time of great crisis.

Air Scotland, we salute you."

It's a truely comendable decision and high praise is due for Air Scotland at a time when profits surely come second to saving lives. For an airline with just one aircraft to halt operations and thus profits to help those in great need is indeed a true act of humanity. My wholehearted congratulations, thanks and appreciation to all at Air Scotland. God bless.

Well done Air Scotland!

To commit you only aircraft to a last minute charter to operate a relief flight is a gallant decision. Your decision to halt you scheduled flights in order to pick up more wounded from the tsunami affected region shows you put lives first, profits second.

I applaud you Air Scotland!

Well I really applaud Air Scotland, however they are not the only one. LZU and Condor are making daily flights to the region, carrying help goods on the trip to the area and passengers back. The help is carried free of charge.

So if you want to email them

Yes indeed, this isn't just about Air Scotland. Let's hear more stories from other airlines. Particularly those smaller ones with limited resources.

After all the bad press Air Scotland has got, I think this a fabulous effort on their parts.

Good luck for the future Air Scotland :)

Air Scotland

Did Air Scotland take payment for the flight?

If not, then certainly a big pat on the back.

If they did take payment, then really this was just another commercial transaction.

Whatever, the crew can certainly have some kudos for their actions if they turned out so differently to what was expected

It doesn't matter if Air Scotland were paid for the flight or not - ( they probably were with the Swedish Govt picking up the Tab). What matters is that they had the aircraft available for charter ( it doesn't fly on a Wednesday normally and usually sits remote parked at GLA) and sent it to the Far East to help with the repatriation of injured tourists to Sweden.
