This weekend a Mustang will be returning to the skies over the old RAF Twinwood Farm airfield. Although the airfield is more famous (or infamous) as the airfield from which Glenn Miller took off from in the fated Norseman it was also home to several RAF squadrons including the Mustangs of 613 Squadron.
On Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th Maurice Hammond will be flying his Mustang as part of the Campaign event taking place at the airfield. There will also be lots of re-enactors and military vehicles including a Sherman tank, a Tiger tank replica and of course a certain jeep and Dodge ;)

More details on the event can be found at www.twinwoodevents.com

See you there!

If it's not an Allison Mustang, then the 'ghosts' that reside there won't recognise it. It may be a Mustang, but if it doesn't have an Allison engine at the front end, its like having a Spitfire XIV flying at a BoB re-enactment.

Firmly tongue in cheek!!

Good to see that Twinwood Farm and its history is being perpetuated and not forgotten, especially the Mustang connection. Pity that I'm on the other side of the world tho, would have liked to have been there to see a Mustang over Twinwood Farm.

268 passed that way but briefly, and bent a Mustang (or two) in the process.

Just out of curiousity ( and perhaps showing my ignorance) do any ex-RAF Mustangs survive and/or are there any preserved with RAF markings?

Roger - there are no complete British Mustangs left.....

There have been, over the decades, various Mustangs painted in RAF markings, both in Europe and in the U.S.

Just got back - Well done to Maurice for a fantastic Mustang display.
It has to rate as one of the best that I have seen and Twinwood airfield makes a very good display location as it too has a curved display line - shown off to excellent advantage in several passes by Janie!
