-The mystery visitor could be a formation of Thunder city jets mass fly past followed by individual items in pairs , two buccs two lightnings and then the hunters.

-I'll be ambitious with my choice of mystery visitor. A Thunder City Lightning with an SU-27 off one wingtip and a MiG 29 off the other

-Where do I buy my ticket! :D
This show would be great, it has been done before a few times but not 'quite' on the scale you are thinking of! The first time was at Duxford - 4x Hunter, F86, Mig-15, Gnats, Vampire, Venom, MB Meteor, Comet, Magister, BAC111, DC8 plus some others I think. Then at Cranfield - 3x Hunter, Strikemaster, JP1, Vampire, Meteor, F86, Mig-15, Canberra, Lightning fast taxi etc plus a balbo at the end. Then more recently at Kemble which also included a balbo ( flypast ) at the end. Would be great to see it all again. Damien's probably got some piccies somewere....

-While much of that could be done at Kemble, to get to see the Lightnings a show a few miles out at sea would probably be the only way - but then again, where would they refuel?

-A scenic airfield overlooking the sea with interesting fast jet history (see Barnes Wallis/swing wings)... how about Predannack, it already has an interesting static park, although they could do with a lick of paint!

-Hopefully one day - following the Rapide/Dominie formation last year it may be possible to have a Beech 18 formation... how cool would that be - i can think of at least 5 attendees! Well, in theory!
By: 22nd June 2005 at 13:58 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-You got jet engines on your Beech 18????

-Will it be at (Jet) Legends?
What about a Supermarine Swift (Whatever happened to the one being slowly restored at Hurn a few years back........)
And a Supermarine Scimitar.....
A couple of F104's in the circuit to make that wonderful howling noise...
And don't forget a Victor "towing" a couple of F4's (or better still a pair of shiny Lightnings!) on it's wing refueling drogues......
Paul
Opps, sorry, lost track of reality for a moment or two...Just off to lie down in a darkened room... :o

-That'd be amazing, i love post war jets! Could possibly bring in some other post-war aircraft for static, such as a Whirlwind e.t.c., would look very good

erm... not at all really, but since the forum seems to love (or hate) idle speculation in equal measures I thought I might put a different spin on it!
Equate this to nothing more serious than a chat you might have over a pint or two in the pub. The last real world 'fantasy airshow' discussion I had resulted in working out a safe crowdline distance to allow a tactical demonstration of a tallboy bomb, professional discreton ought to keep me from revealing the pilot's name who suggested it :D
This said, my initial suggestion was pretty much based in the real world, with what feasably could be avalable...
...as I said, it is no more serious in intent than a half explained daydream... but you never know ;)

Oh OK.

-No worries :)
PS, And this might equally apply to any UK airshow, with the Swedish B17 appearing at 'Legends this year, could this mean that some of the exotic classic jets based out that way could appear at a UK show?
By: 22nd June 2005 at 20:10 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-How about the Swedish J29 Barrel or a Lansen as the foreign visitor?
By: 22nd June 2005 at 20:29 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-Brilliant!
Location? Bruntingthorpe! Why Lightnings x 2 based,Buccaners x2? based ,Dh Comet based, Victor k2 based ,Vulcan ok presently in bits based, oh and a bloody long runway suitable for B52 ops, and near the centre of the country and near a motorway. :D
Foreign participants Viggen still available just ,Draken, F104, F4 phantoms still available,Mig 21 from Romania and a Bear to round it off with flourish!
Alaso what about some Wasps and whirlwinds and the Sikorsky form germany? and a wessex from?
Aim high and you can always fall short! :D

Cold War aircraft, with as many "blue" and as many "red" as possible participating? Sounds good to me.

-The logical extension to the standard 'Will it be at 'Legends' threads-
Daydreaming whilst eating my lunchtime baked potato in the shadow of a Shackleton and Hunter, the following idea entered my head...
...Would it be possible to create an airshow, following the tried and tested format of Flying Legends, moving the era forwards a few years and switching the theme to classic jets. Where could it be staged? Duxford is maybe not best suited to large groups of high performance jets... presumably Kemble would be a logical choice.
Maybe it could be some thing like this:
1)HUNTER TAILCHASE
This is the equivalent of the Spitfire scramble that was a great opening to last years 'Legends. The three Delta two seaters could emulate the Griffon Spits with swooping low passes and immelmans. The background could be filled with a tail chase of various other marks, anything goes.. from the nice duck egg green prototype lookalike to a nice pointy T8M, and Miss Demeanour of course!
2)EARLY DAYS
Whilst Flying Legends has hawker biplanes, the Gladiator and Jungmeisters to show the thirties 'state of the art' that WWII fighters grew from, this airshow could have a couple of Meteors (AACF, and maybe a Martin Baker one... although I realise their flying hours are like hen's teeth) and a reproduction Me262, maybe Paul Allen might like to provide the real thing?
3)HEAVY BOMBERS
How about a visiting B52, or at least convince one to visit a nearby airfield (....if I didn't say it, somebody would!) to be the equivalent the Sally B, this could be a good time for a Vulcan... (I'll get my coat.... hang on, I will finish the post first).
4)de HAVILLAND
While 'Legends has massed Rapides, how about a mixed 'V' formation of Venoms and Vampires, followed at a safe distance by the mighty Sea Vixen?
5)RANDOM FORMATION
The Sabre, T-33 and Canberra '163, for no better reason than they look good together!
6)CLASSIC TANKERS
Whilst it is still possible, a leisurely flypast of a TriStar with a VC10 on each wingtip.
7)MYSTERY FOREIGN VISITOR
~Insert speculation here~
8)JET PROVOSTS/STRIKEMASTERS
A formation led by Kennet's nice silver mark1, maybe one of the more sporty Strikemasters could peel off and engage in a dogfight with a Harrier... or something along those lines!
9)COASTAL PATROL
A Nimrod with a Gannet on each wing. (PS Turboprops, especially double Mambas are allowed.... my rules :D )
Maybe the navy Sea Hawk could join in at this point? Possibly joined by the FRADU black hawks team, as a Hawker/Hawk themed flyby.
10)CLASSIC AIRLINER
Off the top of my head, the ETPS BAC 1-11 would fit the bill, some proper noise!
11)GNAT ATTACK!
Does exactly what it says on the tin, as many Gnats as possible, low level, maybe Ray Hanna in one of them!
12)BALBO
Big noisy specatcle.... one of the Gnats could play 'Joker'.
What do you all reckon, what else would you have taking a starring role? What have I forgotten (apologies to any classic jet operators i have forgotten... it is getting late!)
Over to you!
