Since Reading the Loganair article in Airline World a short while back I have been desperate to fly into Barra airport, I was wondering if anyone else has or wants to.

I would love to fly that route. I was saying to RenFrew I don't know if I want to do it on a nice VFR day, or go up into the muck and get flung around the sky.

I was goign to book it on my last break - Aug I think, maybe even before but the flights were already booked.

I looked into it and then stumbled across a price of £196 from London Heathrow and via Glasgow.

Expensive isn't it, £99 of it is the Glasgow to Barra section, but it looks worth every penny

I'm sure the flight there is great fun, but what do you once you get there? Let's face it, there is not going to be any traffic to see and I'm sure Barra doesn't have the right weather all year around for a swim in the sea.

Yes it is, Loganair experimented with Islanders, shorts 360 etc. I'm not sure why they didn't continue with the Islander, probably its capacity, but found that aircraft like the Shorts 360 with a retractable gear were transferring salt into the fuselage which corrodes the airframe,

The Islander was used primarily in the Air Ambulance role, and not so much for general PAX duties.
