Just wondering if anyone has (or can point to!) a list of what frequencies are in use around the Northwest. I know the obviuos ones for all airports (tower/ground/approach) but was looking more for the frequencies used to control the aircraft at higher altitudes etc.

There's definatley somthing on 131.1166, routing traffic at around FL200 to FL370, then passing them on to 133.07 (Cowley) and 129.1 (Lakes) ? and there pretty busy!!!

Both frequencies you mention (131.116 and 131.1166!) are nothing to do with UK civil aviation. The closest to it are frequency 131.100 and channel 131.125, there is nothing in between that can be allocated. I guess there is a possibility of your scanner picking up a harmonic of another frequency/channel.

Do you know of any way of working out what it is a harmony of? It can just be somthing like 1/2 or 1/4 or double as this would put the originating frequency way out of the airband!

Well some years ago I used to be able to pick up one of the UK Volmet services on my home stereo. That was down to harmonics and was a variation of about 20Mhz from the original frquency. There are probably some rules of thumb involved but you'll be more likely to find those on an electronic geeks forum.
