-Lovely stuff there my friend, from someone who has flown to/from JNB it was a pleasure to see those photos. The diverse airlines, unique/rare aircraft and the superb spotting locations and weather make Jo'Burg in my opinion one of the best airports in the world from an enthusiasts point of view.
May I ask you if this was a purely spotting trip or just business?
Cheers

That BA livery suits the B732 doesn't it

-Thanks for the comments all...
Wozza, there are a number of airliner production lists on the web (just do a search), or alternatively I can recommend The Aviation Hobby Shop published book, which is updated every two years with the history of every Boeing jet airliner ever made - Jet Airliner Production List Volume 1 (Boeing).

-How do you work this out...I looked it up in my database - it started out as a simple Excel spreadsheet and I've been keeping it for years.
Andy... some friends are going to Jo'burg as part of a spotting trip to South Africa early in the New Year. Would you mind describing the spot you took these pictures from?

Just to be picky, the Dash-8 is with South African Express Airways.
Grey Area
Johannesburg International Airport (JIA)
www.airports.co.za
Civil aircraft.
Two inside viewing decks, one in the domestic terminal one in the international terminal. Both are sign
posted inside the terminals and safe. Good for photographs, afternoon (13h00) onwards very good.
JIA Spotters area (Soccer pitch)
Directions from the terminal to the soccer pitch:
Leave the terminal, left at Junction Petoria, immediate right for M32 Pomona, straight on for two kilometers, left R552 Benoni past the end of the runway, RIGHT (M43) Bonaero Park, duel carriageway, turn second right at the Safair sign (Bonaero Road) follow the Safair signs this takes you into a residential area alongside all the Hangars. Keep going along this road, the pitch is on your left (Bonaero 74 Football Club). Go through the gate (it is never closed) and park on the grass by the pitch, taxiway in front of you.
Good for taking photographs of aircraft taxing past.

-Mpacha,
Soccer pitch was busy with, strangely enough, soccer players. In fact, sun not really favourable from over there in the afternoon. Actually, the approach shots were from the other end... Just keep turning left and eventually you get to the end of the far runway (furthest from the terminals)... You will notice the end of the runway up a mound. On the other side of the road is a large grass field... With all the BA's it felt like Myrtle Avenue...

It wouldn't be favourable in the afternoon since it mentions that the "Terminal" is good in the afternoon and this is on the opposite side of the airport. The soccor pitch has been the traditional spot for many years, so you can't knock it! You could even be lucky and catch the odd helicopter from Denel. Problem with your chosen spot is that the runway needs to be operational at the time and at times the police are pretty active in removing you from the area. (That is when they can be bothered..........) It is pot-luck and you got lucky!
Cheers,
M'Pacha

-Great Pics. I have some from the other end of the airport where most of the landings take place. Boksburg end. Also some from the aircraft viewing area. If someone can send me their email address I will zip them and get you to post them as I am restricted to 3gig a month on the broadband here and I have tried posting before but it keeps timing out on me.
Also a bit of topic here, I was at Joburg today seeing my sister n law off and a SAA A346 must have declared an emergency as the fire tenders were lined up down the runway and chased this aircraft back to the stand once it landed. Couldnt see what the emergency was,
