-Congrats to Cathay Pacific... but this is also a testament to the A330, which has proven to be a tremendously succesful Airbus program.

-What happened to the good old days when airlines were usually loyal to one manufacturer, mixed fleets seem to be the go with most airlines these days

-I think it's great news, the 777 is a fantastic aircraft. It is a pilots dream from a flying point to the crew rest facilities.
Cathay will look at replacing the A340 over the coming years with the 787 or the A350 and maybe looking at the 747-8 or the A380 to replace the 744 which I feel will be converted into freighters.
Changing time ahead from Cathay during this time of great expansion.

-Hah! I was right.
A few folks on another forum shot me down for suggesting CX would go Boeing.
I think this order clearly shows that ETOPS is no longer a major part of a fleet order decision.
Also, its good to see the A330 getting in on the deal too. Great aircraft with enviable economics for its class.

Airbus just can't compete now with the 777-300ER and 777-200ER, the airlines are claiming they are far more fuel efficient, hence why Airbus are updating their A340-600 to compete better (but thats naother story, not sure why nobody has mentioned it on here yet). Anyway...
