I beleive winds are forecasted come from the north
That makes me think runways 27L and R with be in use, or is it 26L and R I can never remember.

Mind you, the wind is supposed to be pretty much negligable tomorrow. So I have no idea what LHR will use.

Is there a prefered runway LHR uses when wind is negligable?

27L/R is preferred, as it avoids climbing out over Central London. Even if there is a slight wind from the East (not sure on the actual amount acceptable) then they'll use 27's still, unless it shows likely to be coming from that direction all day.

Hi guys.

Hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas.

Remember that low altitude wind is also taken into account. Wind veers with height or backs at the surface depending on whether you are climbing or descending. A tail wind at 1000 AGL may be more decisional than a light and variable surface wind.

I read somewhere that most localised winds in Britain come from the southwest (82% ish ?), thus LHR 27, LGW 26 and MAN 24 would always primarily be used.

I suppose though when you think about it, all of our wind comes from the southwest due to the coriolis effect of the earth spinning. it then curls anti-clockwise in the northern hemisphere and gets broken up by weather patterns and land masses.

Oh no, not another bloody turkey sandwich.

Tailwind component of greater than 5kts and the runway will change to 09. A wind of 350/4 will mean 27 for sure. Little chance of the 1000' wind being a factor.

Dont mention 27 operations to me..... Spending £79 to get down there and having them on 09s all day. :(

Must be mad going spotting in these temperatures, have a good day all the same.

Apparently this week, its 27R before 1500, and 27L there after

I'd thought of jumping down on a "train" to LHR next week, but i'm flying to STN anyway, and i'll pop to LCY for an hour or two i think :)
