very interesting but not entirely surprising. EZY already fly to Athens and with Turkey on it's way to EU membership its about time its air market started to open up.

I wonder which airports flights would go from - I'd say Gatwick or Stansted

Or Luton? I'm sure Athens is currently available from there.

Mind you, its a good destination. Like Athens, its not somewhere you can to to on the cheap. I tried to book a city break to Istanbul last year, but flights with Turkish Airlines and British Airways were not cheap.

Can see Turkey been a big growth market in the future, particularly if it joins the EU, the likes of Istanbul would be popular, and i'm sure we'd see the likes of Jet2, FlyGlobespan offering Antalya, Dalaman etc etc.

For some reason I can't see Jet2 going for such routes, perhaps just the one Istanbul route.

For that matter i can't see Ryanair going for it immediately

I didn't think that the FR737-800's had the range to go to Istanbul?

There is talk on Taxiway Alpha Forums of a GSM route to DLM, and I could see a Jet 2 flight there too

Ryanair won't operate from the UK to Turkey anytime soon because of sector lengths unless it is decided to operate through the night on a limited basis.

At the moment, the limit is 3 hours with max load, however this is only on paper and aircraft can be upgraded in 5 minutes by an engineer to the full 7 hour range if they wish to do so. :dev2:

Jet 2 did originally express in serving LBA DLM in the future just after purchasing their 757's but it won't be for a few years yet.

Good idea, but that would put tremendous pressure on the charter airlines such as First Choice and Monarch that fly reguarly to DLM, BJV...etc.

Yeah but the low costs have put tremendous pressure on the charters to lots of different destinations anyway!

Everyone on about sector lengths etc, who says the likes of Ryanair, easyJet would serve Turkey (If they did), from the UK? They might choose to serve them from Italy, Germany etc, where this wouldn't really be a problem.
