-I have heard from a friend of mine who works for them and he confirms the name change. Interesting choice of names and not sure they can use an existing name. I know bands definitely can't if that counts!

Libra Holidays, who own Helios, posted a loss of £45 Million blamed on the crash compared to a profit the previous year.

-Maybe a certain someone has sold the name so he can cling onto being able to say "i own an airline"?

I've always been under the impression that Helios wasnt tied to any one tour operator, so can this be the case? That and the fact the airline operates its own loco services..!?
anyone shed anymore light?

-Helios is fully owned by Libra Holidays.

Law (in UK)is pretty clear that if someone registers a Ltd before anyone else the name becomes theirs to use and gives them the ability to stop others operating in the UK.
This happens to numerous sole traders ever year where by out of the blue a Ltd set up recently tells them to change name or they will sue. Not much they can do even if set up 30 years before the Ltd.
Given the name conflict will be in the UK (where they both operate in other words) the above law may come into play. I am not too sure what the international legal aspect is. I am not a lawyer but the above is what we covered at Business School and i thought it might help!

-Non-issue
Even if this is a wind-up it's a non-issue.
There appears to be some confusion over Company names and Trademarks here.
Alphaone does not own nor has it applied for the UK trademark Alphaone. Anyone could go and apply to register the name Alphaone if they so wished. If Martin has any sense (and spare cash) and intends to trade as Alphaone he should apply for the UK Trademark now.
Alphaone is not the company name nor is it a UK company. Alphaone is the trading name of One Aviation Manx Ltd - a Manx company registered in the Isle of Man

-According to the online Cyprus Mail the name is to be Alpha-Jet, not Alpha One. So, not a complete wind-up, just a partial one!

Hi Members.
News which may be of interest ref Helios.
It has been reported in the local Cypriot papers that Helios Airways will adopt a new logo and perhaps change its name to Alpha one Airways.
The airline has been losing around £1 million a month since the August disaster near Athens and it seems that a new identity is set to save the airline.
Confirmation of this is due to be announced very soon with one airline member stating that good news is about to be made ref Helios.
Lets hope Helios survive.
I will keep you posted on any further developments from Cyprus.
Regards
