why: to move it from AMS to the aviation museum at Lelystad airport. The runway there is not strong nor large enough to handle even a stripped down 747.
when: give or take a year ago
etc the 747 is now open to public tuesday to sunday 10:00-17:00 (summer schedule is longer). Some work is still being done on outfiting the plane. Adding engines into the nacelles, making a 2nd-hand AMS airbridge connection between the 747 and the museum etc.
