Following on from the row 13 thread last week, Does anybody have any superstions or rituals they must always do when travelling by air?

I always touch both sides of the door entrance of the aircraft when boarding, silly but it's something i've always done since i was a kid.

When you're built like me, mate, it's actually pretty hard to avoid touching both sides of the door frame when boarding an aircraft. :D

I always try and look into the Flight Deck if i can, just to make sure the guys are doing their job correctly :D

Tho if i board from another exit, like say Left Exit 2, then i worry :p

I must get a window seat! ;)

I also like boarding as soon as possible, I don't like being last on the aircraft!

Flight deck visit too. ;)

I dont really have anything.... although I supppose I have gained one thing in recent years.... I HAVE to hold my girlfriends hand opn takeoff and landing... bless her... she doesnt like flying! I have to be careful not to mention that the tube shes flying in was built by the lowest bidder!

I always like to French-kiss the cutest F/A immediately upon boarding- I'm superstitious that way. Of course since the said F/A is usually not as superstitious as I am, I've never been able to exercise this. Just imagine the agony I have to bear whenever flying- not having acted on my crappy superstitious urge....

It's just mumbo jumbo ;)

If the plane is going to crash it's going to crash, what if the other xxx number of pax have not done their "superstitions" then you've had it no matter how many times you do it, I'm sure if you dived into a cliff at 550mph you will perish with the rest and won't be able to walk free :D

Back in the days when I had my 'fear of crashing' I used to insist on a stiff drink before boarding. Nowt to do with superstition right enough !!!

I firmly push the air conditioning panels above back into their positions. It's not uncommon for these bits of plastic to fall on me during takeoff.

Thinking about it.....i always do give the fuselage a little tap when i board a plane...dont know why, certainly not for any supersitious reasons..if going thru the the right door, i like to have quick looksie into the flightdeck, see wheather the capt is an old dog with more hours than the millennium falcon or a young whippersnapper

Hmm, does meticulously checking your boarding card and passport are still in your bag/pocket every 5 minutes count?

Do they still allow flight deck visits after 9/11?

Whilst on the ground, a lot of carriers still do. I think a lot of it is down to the Captain's discretion too. I usually ask on the way out of the aircraft to one of the flight attendants 'Do you think there's any chance I could have a quick look in the cockpit?'. A lot will come back and say yes. Reasons for not being allowed are usually 'the pilots have already left' or more commonly on lo-co flights 'the pilots are already preparing for the next flight'.

Let's ask the flight crew on these forums....what would you say if someone was asking for a look in the cokcpit after the flight?
