Well as the title suggests, I thought I'd open a thread for us all to bitch and moan about the little things that really annoy us when we fly.

Heres my list

  • Seatbelts
Why do so many people need to be told again how to put them on? I mean come on, its easier than spreading butter on bread. And why is it that immediately after the arrival brief on landing where the F/A says keep your belts on until light goes out you start hearing the clicks of belts coming off. I think people who do that need to be flogged or something.

    [*]Queueing for boarding
The Gate agent said rows 1 to 10 not free for all!

[*]That person beside you who takes up all the arm room
    Enough said!

What I find annoying and hard to believe is when the seatbelt sign goes off after takeoff. Is it just me or does every passenger on the aircraft get up for the toilet?

If I can hold a pee in for 11 hours, why can't everybody else?

Babies crying throuought the flight. Sorry if anybody here has young children. They start crying once the door is closed, and stop once the door is open again

And as you say Sandy, the queueing system. If you fly a loco, you have to be sure you are sat near the gate, or before you know it, there is a long line of passengers well before the indicated dep time, and you hold Card No.1, like i've done a few times. Just drives you crazy!
Happens with full-service airlines too

We could do a Grump Old Men series at this rate :p

Crying babies is THE most annoying thing by far. Closely followed by that are loud groups of people that spout absolute crap throughout the flight.

People who recline the seat when the meals are being served

Virgin Atlantic ask you to return your seat to its upright position when meals are served. And for those disobedient/ignorant passengers who insist on eating whilst lying back in their seat, the crew remind them of the policy.

Annoy's me whenever you don't have a window seat and someone else does and they decide to put the blind down  .

What annoys me the most is when people (usually children) that are sitting behind me, kick my chair constantly.

I hate it when youve got 2 halfs of a window and not a whole one.

Makes it all more frustrating choosing which half to look out of! :D

Totally agree with the window one! These people who shut the blinds, should ask around to swap, so 'saddos' like me can take 400 shots of the sea and perhaps a couple of the holiday itself (a bone of contention in my house :D :D )

But........the most annoying thing, is my Mrs, who kicks off with anybody who reclines at all, at ANY time. Then expects me to back her up! :o

The last time was on our trip to South Africa. A 12 hour flight, and she refused to let the poor ****** in front recline at any point.I mean ok, she's 6'2" and an ex- lifeguard (no bullsh*t), but it's hardly passenger in front's problem. :(

God, I hope she don't read this I'll be dead! :D

Cheers

Kev :)

P.S. I have attached a photo below, of said person in said situation.I mean who's gonna argue with THAT!! :D :D (Scary Mary or what)

Mine is the fat, sweaty person who takes up the there’s and your seats in one go, and they always seem to be sat next to me.

Oh and another classic which happened the other week with me, left Manchester dull and wet, burst though the clouds in to brilliant sunshine, the lady next to me says” the weather much better up here it’s a lot nicer” gees are some people stupid.

The 'very important' guys whose single piece of cabin luggage comprise one oversize carry-on bag, a briefcase. a laptop, a suit carrier and a plastic bag full of duty free. If it's a 'very important' woman they add a handbag to that lot.

OK I'm 6'4 and totally sympathise with your wife. If I can go for 8 hours without reclining my seat, even if its a child sat behind me, then the person who is 5'7 in front of me can sure show some courtesy and so the same.

The good thing about this situation however, is that in the world of declining seat pitch, 90% of the aircraft I fly in, my knees are compressed quite tightly against the seat in front. This make reclining the seat they are pressed against physically impossible. After afew sharp jerks against my legs, with no movement in the recline in the chair, I do have to point out to the person in front that it will NOT go back any further, and to please stop attacking my legs ;)

Ok, point taken! :) (on a short haul cattle trip tho'.....my argument was on a KLM 777....lots of room).

However, I agree with your tip as I'm of a similar frame to you, and try to use the same method to hold the seat forward with my knees. But you do need to keep your concentration though, as it can be painful when they recline,if your relaxed and not expecting it...lol :D

Anyway I will stop making cruel remarks about my 'Heir Fuhrer', cos' she is lovely really! :diablo:

I think that's a bit personal actually!!

It's my glands you know, not my fault.

Two things:

* If I get a window seat and want it because I want to sleep and as I find it easier to do so with my head resting against the cabin wall, too bad, I'm gonna pull the blind down

* I pay for a seat that reclines (as do all passengers). The space behind my seat, into which it reclines, is MY space, not the space of the passenger behind. If I don't recline my seat, then the person behind temporarily gets use of extra space during that period. When I want to recline the seat, its going back whatever the passenger behind thinks and too bad for them.

The easy answer to the seat recline problem, particularly on long-haul, is to fly business class... Saves having to sit with all the chavs too! :)

Interesting argument. If, as you say, the space you are paying for is the space of the seat in full recline, surely the advertised seat pitch is therefore erroneous?

a) people to move/crush items in the o/h lockers just so they can get their own items in.

b) people who take ages to put item in o/h and continue trying to unpack/repack them whilst standing in up.

c) people who sit in an aisle seat then have to get up to allow people to get to window / middle seat.

d) people who fail to obey cabin crew instructions - had this on EK once but the best was on Garuda - pax during descent got a large bag out of o/h and put it in the aisle (just so he could get off quicker) cabin crew asked him to put it back, he refused, so they took the bag to the back of the place - he was last off!

I'd have to say the crying baby thing annoys me the most when I am flying long-haul. But the kid kicking the back of my seat gets on my nerves pretty quickly as well. I don't care about the reclining seat business as if I am going to do it to the person behind me, it would be unfair of me to ask the person in front of me to keep his seat upright so that I can be comfortable. But that's just me!
