Representatives from Air Newcastle, the new lowcost virtual airline from the north east of England, today announced a firm starting date for scheduled operations - Sunday 2nd July 2006. The very first flight NEW109 will depart for London's Gatwick airport at 05:45am following a free breakfast buffet for the first passengers in the departure lounge.

"All four Boeing 737 aircraft have had maintenance and painting with contractors completed after signing contracts with lessors earlier this month and will be completing crew familiarisation flights from now until late Saturday night. Being prepared for mis-haps now will hopefully ensure any teething and operational issues are firmly ironed out before we start carrying fare-paying passengers at the weekend." commented Lee Lambert, General Manager of Air Newcastle today.

The airline will initially operate four Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Newcastle International Airport to Amsterdam, Bergen, Brussels, Dublin, Ibiza, Jerez, London Gatwick, Palma and Prague airports with frequencies varying between once and three times daily. Our aircraft will be expected to turnaround within 45minutes of landing - longer than most lowcost outfits. More destinations will be added to the current flying programme once more aircraft are acquired and evaluated later next month.

Passengers will utilise leather seating onboard at 29" pitch and will have various opportunities throughout flights to purchase hot and cold drinks and snacks at very competitive prices. Air Newcastle is a ticketless airline and does not pre-assign seats to passengers at check-in.

Pilots are free to join immediately where benefits include access to a new pilot centre, currently under construction thanks to Operations Manager Marc Lennox, where automated pireps are already in action and access to downloading our fleet. The Air Newcastle Community Forum is also fully operational where pilots can discuss issues, aircraft and routing information and even realworld issues.

Any comments, queries or questions welcome! The website is very much still work in progress, the time has come however to start flying, theres no fun in planning-planning-planning

Sounds rather interesting - however two queries I found with the now defunct Keyjet:
- Why FSacars and VATSIM - you need to make dispensation for those who fly their FS on non-internet hooked up PCs, such as myself which would make myself not eligible for membership, otherwise i'd be there,

All links, as far as we are aware, are working bar those linked from the join page temporarily.

Brillaint - The question now is, how does one join considering the 'join us' page is not functional,

I meant bit-part as in bits missing, I shall look again!

Update: Pages are now working, when I looked they weren't...I retract my original statement :D
