I had the opportunity to sample FlyBe's new machine today. With 13 of my colleagues from our ATC unit we arrived to check in at about 5.30am, we were being round trip checked in as we would not be leaving the aircraft in Edinburgh. After check in it was through security which was no trouble, then time for a coffee before boarding commenced.

Flight details......
BEE764 EMB195 G-FBEA
Scheduled departure time 06.45
Actual departure time 06.53/07.08
Scheduled arrival time 08.10
Actual arrival time 08.12/08.19

First impression on entering the aircraft was the length of the cabin it seemed to go a long way back!!!! Once settled in my seat which was 12D a window seat just forward of the wing in line with the engine. With boarding completed, i would guess load factor this morning was about 60%, the integeral steps were stowed and we were pushed back a few minutes later. The safety brief was carried out whilst we waited for the morning Brit Air CRJ to depart to Paris, then it was our turn to back-track runway 20, on turn around the brakes were applied for a short while. Then the power was applied and a sprightly take off roll commenced, as we were light it did not take long to become airbourne. We passed through a small layer of cloud to be greeted with the sun, soon we were entering a right turn to take us up to Compton & then onwards north to Edinburgh. Noise on take off and climb was not a problem at all. The seats did not recline which seems standard for low cost carriers these days. My only complaint about the seats were that the headrests were to low, i would not fancy too long in these seats.
The captain never came on at any time during the flight with any information. All to soon we were descending into Edinburgh approaching from the east to land on runway 24. After a smooth touchdown we departed the runway to the left, the next landing was a Continental B757 with winglets from Newark(N41140). We taxied to stand & the passengers de-planed,whilst we waited on board.
Time was taken chatting with the crew which included an engineer who was staying with the aircraft throughout the day. He said they were having very little trouble with it.

Return flight detail.....
BEE767 EMB195 G-FBEA
Scheduled departure time 08.50
Actual departure time 09.39/09.53
Scheduled arrival time 10.20
Actual arrival time 10.51/10.58

As can be seen from the above times turn around did not run as smooth as it should have done. One of the stewardesses informed us that an aircraft had gone tech so the passengers were being routed through Southampton to there final destination. The Continental 757 that landed after us was turned round quicker than us!!! The flight ended up being about 85% full this time.
For the return i was seated in 3D. Once pushed back we taxied to runway 24 for departure. After take off we continued to head west before turning south over Glasgow. The weather in Southampton had deteriated since our departure, with the cloud cover a lot thicker, we popped out the bottom at about 750ft for a smooth touchdown on runway 20.

All in all a good flight both ways.

The Saint.

Was this the first commence service flown on this EMB 195 before its main passager flight?

Hi, thanks for the comments. No it was not its first flight, it has been used on Birmingham-Belfast City & Birmingham-Toulouse-Bristol.
It was its first flight from Southampton though.
