Hi,
Does anybody know if any company has made offers on Airfix yet? I know Hornby and Revell said they were interested, but has anything gone further than that?
It would be a great shame for Airfix to disappear completely.

Thanks

Bought by Hornby according to the radio this morning. Good job, stock of Humbrol paints are running low, had great difficulty getting any 29 (dark earth) locally

Which means I can stop stocking up Humbrol paints :)

Not so.

Apparently within the next 12-18months, all the enamels were due to be discontinued anyway (along with cellulose, 2-pack etc...) as part of an EU directive to make us all use 'orrible acrylics for everything.

So carry on panic buying 'cos i am  :D

Sounds a bit alarmist to me. What about Xtracolor? Still available - and still the best, in my opinion.

Eric,

As i said in the Airfix thread over on 'Historic', just Google "EU paint directive" which i think comes in January 2007.

It certainly concerns automotive cellulose, enamel and two-pack paints. My local LMS owner told me the scuttlebutt about Humbrol discontinuing enamels, but as i say, just search on Google for the techinical waffle about it.

Cheers........

Great ... Now the EU has to start messing with that. Where will I get my dose of cellulose thinner now ? :D

Spoke to the Hornby reps at Telford on the weekend. They are very optimistic about the future and have confirmed that they will be able to recover all the original Airfix moulds from France. They couldn't give me any clues as to what might happen with the ex-Heller moulds. I think they would LIKE to acquire them but they may have to bid for them along with other contenders.

Regarding enamel paints, they are OK for the moment, especially regarding the hobbies and crafts industry but it is likely that they will be banned over the next few years. Humbrol and all the other paint manufacturers are working hard on acrylic type formulas which will be able to replace the old style enamels in time.

Although we in the UK are most concerned about the EU's plans for banning enamels, this is, in fact, a worldwide move and it looks like the country which will introduce a ban on enamels soonest will be Australia.
