Since I've recently moved to Australia to study, I thought that I might have a look at AirlinerWorld's forums.

So, I was wondering, when I'm going home, I'm going to fly Sydney-Seoul-Zurich-Copenhage. That's roughly 25 hours of (almost) non-stop flight time, with an additional 9 hours of waiting time (6 hours in Seoul and 3 hours in Zurich).

So, I was wondering, what flight was the longest that you have ever been on?

I flew Seoul, Korea, to Detroit nonstop once...17 damn hours. Counting layovers, it took me 24 hours to get from Cincinnati to Guam.

I did Bangkok to Seattle once, and it just about killed me. I'm 6'5" and I was definitely NOT in Business Class....

RE: First post: Longest time on plane?

As travel industry employee based in New Zealand, I regularly see itineraries with travel times in excess of 30 hours including transfers. The absolute fastest flight time from NZ to London is 25 hours (Auckland-Los Angeles/Singapore- London) while the fastest time to travel to Johannesburg is 29 hours. (Auckland/Christchurch/Wellington-Syndey-Perth-Johannesburg.)Many airline combinations are even longer.

Personally the longest that I have spent on the same aircraft without getting off was 40 hours. It was a BA flight in the 1980's from Brisbane to London. It went technical in Sydney, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, and we had a weather related delay in Kuala Lumpur, the only other stop en route. I was not allowed off the aircraft as I was an unaccompanied minor, and BA did not have the airport staff on hand to look after me. The cabin crew did take me to the first class galley to have free reign of the fruit baskets and chocolate selection, so I didn't mind too much.

I pity the travellers in the 1950's who would spend days getting from A to B.

RE: First post: Longest time on plane?

My longest were
-Madrid-Havana with Cubana Il-62 with a technical stop at Gander...endless.
-Madrid-Buenos Aires with Aerolineas B747-200. Time 12.00 hours.
-Dallas-Frankfurt on Lufthansa A340. Time 10.45 hours.
-Santiago de Compostela-Caracas on Viasa. Time 8.30 hours
-LHR-EWR on BA 747-100. Time 7.30.
-Madrid-Delhi on Royal Jordanian A310. Time 10 hours (several stops).
This makes me think, about the lack of innovation in aviation.
Planes are essentially the same since the launching of the Dc-8 or B707. No speed improvements, no new designs, everything too
standard. I don´t want to refer to transatlantic speed but speeds of 1.5 match could cut travelling times quite a lot. I think it´s really unhuman staying more than 10 hours on a plane.
Why costs are more important than innovation?.
