Hi Guys
Some time ago I had a problem with my fs9 crashing after use of around 45 mins. I received many replies from this site which mainly concerned with possible overheating. At the time I followed all advice but to be honest I never really spent much time on the sim. Lately, with some time on my hands, I re-entered the sim world and notice that the same things happen. No other programme/game, watever you want to call it, does this. I don`t switch between aircraft, just the occasional panel view every 5-10 mins. It doesn`t matter what I do to try and stop this it just keeps on happening. I run a 256mb graphics card with a 1mb RAM and a 3.4 processor.
Any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks

Colin

I once had a similar problem and found that updating my graphic card drivers did the trick.

Providing you don't have too many add-ons installed, a complete re-install might be the best option.

Thanks Michael, I thought about r-installing but I have a lot of things that I don`t want to lose. I will try looking for an updated driver for the graphics card meantime and let you know how I get on.

biggles

Try this, switch off your PC and then take off the cover to your PC.
Check inside and ensure your processor fan and your processor itself is free from a dust build-up. You may have to take the heatsink & fan off the processor to get to the processor. If you look on your processor you "should" see some cooling fins" (dependant on processor type), just ensure these are fully free of dust. Then do the same with your graphics card.

Give that a go, it may work, it may not. But my sis in law's PC kept switching off after 30mins or so, and after I had vacuumed it out it solved the problem

Report back to us and let us know

DANGER!!! Vacuming inside a PC can build up a big static charge and zap ram and or processors I have been told.

Beter to use canned air products that are designed for the task. While cleaning, check the fan in the power supply as well, had a couple of those go over the years, that will give you trouble as well.

Colin,

Did you try deleting your FS9.cfg file as I suggested last time you had this problem ?

Make a back up first to a different location and then delete the original, FS will rebuild a new file and restor all you settings to default.

That's all well & good CS but if the crap was embedded like it was in the sis in-law's PC no knd of air canister will get it out.
And yes it is always wise to earth anything that you are putting inside your PC, even your hand :)

Recently helped clean out a PC that had been sharing it's space with a bird cage........NOT RECOMENDED!!!

Don't want to do that again:eek:

Note to self, "Don't hang bird cage near computer"

Some dog hair as well...What a mess, wonder why it kept crashing!?!?!

hi Guys, many thanks for taking the time to reply to my problem. My apologies for the delay in replying but just came back late last night from the Duxford May day Airshow - man its a long drive up that A1 back to Edinburgh! Anyway, all fired up with enthusiasm after watching Stephen Grey perform his usual polished display in the Bearcat I fired up the PC to try my hand with my own "display" in my Bearcat but this time I REALLY have a problem with fs9! I get the initial load up screen then it shuts down altogether! I did use a can of air to clean the heatsink fan etc, ran some other flight sim/racing sims with no problems so something must be wrong somewhere! Tomorrow I am going to rename my fs9 folders and re-install the sim then transfer over my saved folders etc hoping that will sort out my problem. Its amazing how cranky a man can get when he doesn`t get his flight sim fix!
