-Not much different to Qantas..Air New Zealand or even Singapore

-I like SQ's buisness product better , but thats just my opinion . I havent flown jets new product , and have flown SQ's new one twice now .
From the looks of it Qantas's international buisness is similar to 9W but i dont think it looks as tempting as SQ's but it could be different . I have flown EK,SQ,VS,CO,BA etc in Buisness and only EK in first . Also service matters a lot i have never been let down in those airlines while in buisness or in economy , lets see if 9w is able to carve a good service reputation for itself .

-Jet Airways offers EXCELLENT on-board service. I travelled to London with them few months back and it was a great flight. I flew on the leased A340s, but with the new jets it should be great.

-Thats great to hear . I am definately having an inclination to fly them next time i go ti india for work . I also like the fact that they are opening up brussels-delhi route . Until the 787 dreamliner comes onboard i doubt they can make the DEL-EWR as profitable the DEL-Brussels-EWR route because of the buisness traffic they probably pick up , but interestingly the CO flight that i have taken twice now always has had a full Buisness First they have on offer , so maybe jet can also open up DEL-EWR with a 777W but via brussel it would probably be better for now . Dont they pick up fifth freedom passengers from brussels?

-Mind you one of the main reasons i, or infact any Indian likes 9W is because it is very India centric. The in-flight entertainment offers a good balance of Bollywood and the western movies. Same goes with food etc. Naresh Goyal, the founder of 9W is an ex SQ employee so that is why people will find 9W similar to that platform. But do try it, it brings many international airlines to shame. Naresh Goyal has a very debated clause in all his employees contracts, if an employee gets a maximum of 2 bag remarks from either the management or a customer, he is fired.
If work brings you to New Delhi bring_it_on, give me a shout, some masala chai should be in order. :)

Dont most Carriers with IFE and VOD offer that flying out of India ? I believe SQ had Indian movies on there flight to Singapore . ?

I bet , but lets see i quite like the CO buisness/first that they have comming in to New delhi , it would be very hard to beat that specially with a stop at BRU . I mean its probably not as comfortable as 9W's however the service is pretty good and for most buisness travelers getting to delhi non stop is a great benefit . And the prices are quite competitive . I think 9W needs a direct flight from DEL to EWR , given that a lot of tourist travelers going to the states from delhi can choose between EWR,JFK and even chicago ( as i believe many connect from these airports to there domestic destination) i bet that with the current product offering 9W can own this market if they price competitivly !! But i do have a feeling that 9W did consider a direct flight but the DEL-BRU-EWR route was probably more financially rewarding. However now that they have BRU as a hub i doubt that they will start a direct non-stop flight any time soon . Maybe when they get the 787 the economics could be better and they could really be very very competitive in this route .

-most carriers usuall offer one movie from Bollywood and one South Indian movie. 9W offers atleast 5 movies per decade since independence. So from black and white classics to '07 latest releases. Its quite a selection.
yes i have heard decent things about CO business..and horrid things of CO cattle class. But its good to see these airlines operating these routes, they are highly lucrative. I remember the fastest route to US till few years ago used to be with SAS with a stop at CPH.

CO buisness class is allright comfort wise , Not the best seat my any strech of the imagination , there service is quite good but the real winner for them is the Route and the time that is saved , I believe it is the only airline doing new york to New delhi non-stop so that pretty much ensures them very good returs . They are also quite competitive , the cost for buisness class is very impressive and while it aint SQ or EK,9Wetc etc by any strech of the imagination but for the price and given the direct flight it would fit very well for most buisness folks like me going to New delhi .

I guess its upto the passenger as well. Most passengers are ignorant about the airline/aircraft they travel with. Atleast in India they are, travelling to US in cattle i would definately go for a few hours stay in some European hub while business i wouldnt mind doing DEL-JFK direct.
Anyway my work doesent require me to goto US, although Scandinavia is where i have to go on an almost monthly basis. The new Finnair DEL-HEL route works quite well in this case.
Plus any American airline wouldn't be my first choice to travel on.

-Yes unfortunately the US legacy carriers have been left far behind , they should come back stronger with the next generation products once the 787 and A350's start to come in .

Jet is playing it smart , and i think that going into the future the Bombay-shanghei-san fran route would be very profitable for them as there product is so much better then what the current competition (UA etc) is offering on that route . However i dont understand why they chose BRU as there scissor hub? It is amongst the most expensive airports to work out of , moreover they are routing all there US flights from BRU , whilest there competitor AI is going direct . Now AI only pays for staff and pilots at delhi and EWR whereas jet is having to go through brussels and then keep passengers waiting as the other flights pile in for the scissor operations to work well . Is it worth it ? Can they get extra Revenue just out of the BRU-EWR leg of the operation over and above what they could have gotten from the BOB-EWR ops? Is fifth freedom (rights)going to work for them in this case? I think they have left a gaping hole in there by not going direct , not only would they utelize there fleet better ( no 8 hour stop at BRU) but also fight off competition . In my opinion when IT gets into the game (when they get there aircraft) they can cover the market for direct really well specially with the A340 and A350 aircrafts that it has on offer . As buisness travel to and from BOM,DEL to cities in US is growing and as it is a leisure and tourist traveler might be willing to pay slight premium for non-stop direct flight i see these routes like BOM-EWR/JFK , DEL-EWR/JFK , BOM-ORD , DEL-ORD , BOM-IAD , BLR-EWR etc become very profitable as non-stop very shortly (most allready are) .
Sure by eventually packing in 3-5 fligths into BRU and then grouping them together for Toronto , New york etc they can fill aircraft , but what about when IT comes up and starts offering same routes non-stop? And IT is sure to have a similar if not a better product . Also expect AI to be more competitive with there new product and aircrafts . Jet might be letting go of an opp. to capture a very profitable market !!

The only reason the 9W management has given for selecting BRU is that they didnt get any slots at LHR and they were not keen to operate out of CDG. I think there previous idea of making FRU there EU hub would have been a better choice, as LH already has a good relation with the Indian aviation industry.
AI is not looking at Berlin or Munich as a EU hub while they are also in talks for taking over JAT, again simply for the JAT slots at LHR and using there pilots to fill the gaps.
from what i know IT is planning something like operating direct and indirectly into US. Direct with its A345s that they will get by March next year and indirectly through EU with the A380s which they might get as soon as 2009 instead of 2011.

-I also think that FRA would have been better , I have heard not so good things about LH economy to india from co-workers who have used it . Although LH has huge operations into india and out of india they IMHO will find it very hard to compete with a 9w at this stage . If i was 9W i would use the T-7's as non-stop direct to the US east coast , and use the 330's for feeder traffic to BRU (if BRU is needed at all) . Some cities can be more profitable covered by Non-stop flights and with the indian economy steaming ahead i bet the traffic specially the high paying buisness and first would only increase between city pairs such as BOM-JFK , DEL-JFk/EWR etc with there product they can clean the competition which exists now . I would buy 748 and use it on the shanghai-Sanfan,shanghai-LAX route (again 9w can dominate on this route given the current competition) and use 330's for feeder traffic to there !!
As far as IT , it would be interesting to see what they do with there A380's , First guess would be BOM-LHR and DEL-LHR..Can these routes sustain such huge capacity expansion ? Responding by adding 380 or 748 to that route (for competitors like 9w and AI) wont be too smart as it will only be worst for everybody , i think that they would up frequency and keep the high paying pax happy .

The more i look at it the more i am becoming a fan of this airline .
Smart livery , upgraded cabin.. Although not enough for me to switch loyalties from SQ anytime soon but there new product looks really competitve and i bet they can generate healthy revenue from this products considering the routes they are serving .
