I always drive so i wouldnt be able to advise regarding walking directions, but i am sure that from Hatton's Cross, Myrtle Avenue isnt that far. Check out google earth for walking directions (It should be easy to find)
Also are you aware that they operate landing alternations between the two runways (27L & 27R) depending on time of day?

Yes i know that the 27's alternate for landings at 3pm,and that there's a wider loop to walk, from google earth though i can't make out any footpaths:rolleyes:

You want Bus 28 I think it is.
It runs around the perimiter, so you can get it from the bus stop towards the end of 27R, and get off at the Hatton Cross bus station.

Do you know what the alternations are though as they change them on a weekly basis (Sunday i believe)
When i get home later, i have a quick look at the timetable and see what the pattern is.

I'l be home tonight around 1900 and so i will look at the timetable i have then. It is always worth knowing so that you can plan your trip depending on what time you will arrive
Gary - Check back on this thread around 7pm tonight and i'l whack on what runways they will be using

Thanks adam for the help,i'm hoping the weather won't affect my trip too much,as the forecast at this time isn't great,i am staying in the renaisaance hotel,might as well take advantage of the fact they offer spotter deals:(,flying from dub on friday morning & going back sat evening,bmi have very good fares i must say compared to aer lingus,72 euros versus 160!!! :eek:

I have heard the SAS hotel is very good and can offer some fantastic views – Do bare in mind though that if you get a room overlooking the runway (09L/27R) that this view is only any good for photography in the later afternoon and evening (due to the position of the sun)
A couple of tips for you
It is easier to photograph approaches on 27L rather than 27R!
Shooting on 27L first thing in the morning can cause a slight problem due to shooting into the sun. As of 11am it seems to be ok.
If landing 09L (if using the 09’s they always use 09L regardless of time of day) there is a great field at the end of the runway – A long walk but worth it
Regardless of the weather conditions at Heathrow it will still be an experience like no other. I recently visited this wonderful place at 0600 in the morning and I counted 10, yes 10 B747’s in succession to land! Having jumbo after jumbo land is definitely an experience I would recommend to others.
One last piece of advice also – Take loads and loads of spare memory cards & batteries! Believe me you will need it

Yes 72euro return i couldn't believe it either!,my trusty rain jacket will come in handy i think:D ,and the situation if using 9's i understand,i don't mind walking either:rolleyes:

All buses are free within the area immediately surrounding heathrow. To get to 27R from Hatton Cross you can take the 285, 90, 435, 555, 556 or 557. Myrtle Ave is only a couple of minutes walk from Hatton Cross. Cross the main road outside the station, walk past the petrol station and keep going for a minute or so and you are there.

Here is the alternations as promised:
Night Alternation Period (0000 - 0600) Arrivals - 27R
(0600-1500) Arrivals - 27L
(1500 - Last Departure) 27R
If because of the wind the 09's are in operation, then landings will take place on 09L regardless.
(If using 27's)
Also note that before 0700 some aircraft will land on either 27L & 27R (Mixed mode operations). This is because with the few departures before 0700, any traffic for T1 & T2 can land 27R to save taxi distance (Or land 27L if using T4)
Are you staying till Monday? If so (change over happens Sunday midnight)then it is the other way around with 27R being used for Arrivals from 0600 - 1500 and 27L after 1500

Hi all,i was wondering since the cross roads through BA maintenance are closed what would be the best way to go to the 27R spot from hatton cross,also which is easier to get to myrtle avn. from the terminal,bus or tube?,finally if 27R is use in the morning,how should i get to the spot,bus no??:confused: ,oh is that website that lists the runway info still active,i had a link but it's dead:mad: ,any help always appreciated:)
