Very unlikely. The WC 2006 will be in Germany, so on the European continent. This will give an extra advantage to the European teams, whereas now, European teams have been losing most of the matches. It was clear Brazil had to win this WC, because everybody likes Brazil, though I find the Germans were at most the better team. In 2006 you can bet Germany will win again, at own terrain, just like France did in 2002.

Primer55,
It may have escaped your notice but Brazil will have to qualify for 2006, and you know how much they struggled to qualify for this one.

Well, Kev, seeing as they won the whole thing, I'd say that their struggles to qualify are a moot point. :)

PII,
I don't think so. The World cup itself is a matter of getting enough points in the first round to get through to the second, this means they don't have to win all three games. A win and two draws is often good enough. It's then a matter of winning the next four games and hey presto you are the world champions.
To qualify for the competition is a different matter altogether. It takes the best part of two years and Brazil will probably be a very different team by then. And the fact that you are the champions now might well count for nothing in 4 years time - just ask the French!

We do, it's called the Premier League :). In all seriousness, we will not have a cohesive team until our star players stop flying off to the big European leagues chasing the cash and support our local league instead...

We have a team and they are the world's biggest under-achievers IMO. I would be HAPPY just to see them Qualify!

First of all, Kev, I'm from the United States. Football (Soccer) isn't really my thing I was just trying to make a point.
Your post made you sound as if you are sour from the fact that Brazil won. You sounded as if you were just trying to say they won by a fluke or something. Nothing to get all serious about. I couldn't get serious about that sport if I tried.

PII,
I think you've misunderstood me. I think Brazil are worthy champions and they certainly deserved to win the final. My point is that being champions this time round is no guarantee that things will be the same next time round, as I said, ask the French.
As for you being American, you have my heartfelt sympathies. As for your lack of knowledge and interest in soccer it's probably comparable to my lack of knowledge of baseball. American Football used to be shown in the UK and I used to watch it. But really it's just rugby with shoulder pads, armour plating and interminable stoppages. Is it only American inspired sports where it can take three hours to play a game which only lasts one hour?

Merlin3945: it isnt this way any more... fifa changed the rule.. this was the last wc in which the champion of the previous one was already qualified to play the next... really dumb, dont you think so?

Primer is right. Although they lost the World Cup, Germany are guaranteed a place in 2006 because they are the host nation. Brazil, even though they are world champions will still have to go through the qualifying process. It is pretty stupid isn't it? Your reward for winning is to have to endure qualifying next time around.
