RE: question about one of "the Few"

Hi Ben,I suggest that you also post your question on the following site http://www.battleofbritain.net
The folk on there are undoubtedly the experts on the subject.
If you find the answer and your man died in the battle or later in the war, he should be recorded on the Commonwealth War Graves Commision site http://www.cwgc.org
Please let me know how you get on as I have often wondered myself who the mystery man was,Regards Phil.

With a bit of bookworming, a lot of surfing and particular thanks to Alan Putland, Gianmaria and others at http://www.battleofbritain.net the mystery is solved.
As to the political correctness prevelant at the time of the film being made I leave it up to the reader.
The pilot concerned was 42598 F/O George Ernest Goodman DFC.
Born 1920 Haifa (then in Palestine) to Sidney Charles and Bida Goodman, father was a railway engineer.
Flew Hurricanes with No.1 Sqn in France. First victory 13/3/40 He111, and another on 17/6/40 plus some "shared" in between.
He saw considerable action in the Battle of Britain claiming 2x He111,1x Bf109 and 2x Bf110. Credited with half kills on 1x He111,1x Bf110 and 1x Do17 plus 1x Do17 damaged (shared).
Shot down 6/10/40 injuring his shoulder on landing after bailing out.
Joined 73.Sqn and posted to Middle East November 1940 where he was awarded the DFC.
14/6/41 shot down by flak and killed whilst leading a flight of 6 Hurricanes attacking Gazala airfield. Another of the 3 aircraft lost on the mission was 741363 F/Sgt John White DFM a BoB pilot who was also killed. White a 25 year old Scot from Motherwell is buried in grave 8.G.2 Halfaya Sollum War Cemetary,Egypt.
Goodmans final tally was 10, plus 6 shared destroyed and 1 shared damaged.
He is buried in grave 10.C.12 at Knightsbridge War Cemetary. Acroma, Libya. His parents are shown as residing in Lagos Nigeria at the time of his death.
Hope this is of use. Regards to all, Phil.
