Hi
Im 16, looking into starting my ppl in the next year, any tips, advice.I live near north weald so does any one recommend somewhere local to do it?

Try the link below as a start. Although this particular thread relates to learning overseas, the basic principles that are discussed hold true. I'm currently doing mine. It's hard work sometimes (but then it should be) but incredibly rewarding IMHO. Type "PPL" into the forum search and you'll get all manner of threads.

The most important thing is to find a club at which you feel relaxed and happy. If this means having three or four 'trial' lessons with different clubs, so be it.
First buy a PPL logbook. Something like this is just fine :

When you turn up for your trial flight with a logbook they'll know you are serious. Then at the end of each trial flight get them to help you fill it in and get the instructor to countersign it. The hours will then count towards your PPL, you are not wasting money.
There's a club called (from memory) Skysport at N Weald who train on Pups, and there are several training organisations at Stapleford. Visit them all. If they are offhand then they probably don't want your business.
Pay as little up front as possible. If you pay anything upfront make sure it is on a credit card and you are protected if they go **** up.
Most of all - have fun. The PPL course is not a hurdle to be got out of the way as quickly as possible. It is some of the best and most enjoyable flying you will ever do.

Stapleford I guess would be your nearest licensed airfield from North Weald? Having just looked on my map, it is but the width of a gnat's nadger away. These things are importnant when you are 16 and have limited transport options.
Moggy is correct - Google reveals Skysport do a PPL from North Weald in a Pup 150. The rates appear comparable to training in a Piper Warrior, but in a more attractive aeroplane. My guess is that because NW is unlicensed you have to go to Stapleford and let the wheels touch the tarmac there before you can commence your lesson.
Tips? Have money. Have determination. Read and re-read up on your next flying lesson.

Hi, sorry to Hi-jack the thread but i'm in a simmilar position to XH668. I'm looking to invst in PPl training but i'm not quite sure how to go about it.
My dad (he's a PPL) said that he voluntiered for the fire crew at Old Sarum and got a discount on lessons etc. However I also have another choice which is to do PPL training in the a/c we own.
Does anyone have any good suggestions for training airfields around Salisbury or Instructiors who do training in a persons a/c? At the moment i'm looking at Western Air Thruxton as the best choice (for either method) but they have no listed prices. Does anyone know PPL costs at TX?
Adivce / Suggestion Please?

Personally I prefer Sarum to Thruxton, but to be fair I used to have an aircraft based at Sarum (Where the CFI did my conversion to type) whereas I have only flown into Thruxton a couple of times, usually to visit Aviation Leathercraft (Top blokes for Irvins)

Looking at stapleford its rather expensive compared some others
is there anywhere else someone can recomend?

The annual "Where to Learn to Fly Guide" from Pilot Magazine is pretty good - try their website www.pilotweb.co.uk. (I have no connection with them but I will accept commission!)
I learned with the Rural Flying Corps at Bourn (near Cambridge), but I guess that's a bit far for you.
