Sunday April 27th will see the first public appearance of Air Atlantique Classic Flights dhc Chipmunk G-APLO in her new black colour scheme. To mark this occasion we are inviting Chipmunk owners to bring along their trusty steeds to Baginton (Coventry) airport for a bit of a mini Chipmunk gathering. There will be a Classic Flight Open Day going on and a DC3 will be pleasure flying. We are offering free landing fees, a free bacon roll (or equivalent) and free hot drinks to any Chipmunk and crew arriving on the day, although we ask if you could register your intentions first please so that we know how many aircraft to cater for. If this sounds good then please e-mail me at davidharmsworth(at)hotmail.com - replacing (at) with @. I will be away at Sheffield with our dehavilland Devon all weekend so please excuse me if I don’t reply to e-mails sent over the weekend until next week.

Hi David,

Janie is going in her Chippy and I'd like to come along but by road.

There's scant information on the new website (heh a Martin Shaw connection!) about the next Open Day, e.g. how much, where to go etc for road visitors. Can you help?

The airport has said that its ok for our fly-in to carry on and all they need is a list from me of which aircraft will be arriving, for this I need the following information please :

Aircraft registration, Expected Time of Arrival, Expected Time of Departure, Number of persons on board and where you are coming from.

The Open Day will open at 10 o'clock and the last flight planned is currently at 1830.

Hope to see you there,

Dave

I have come to the decision today that the Chipmunk Fly-In planned for Coventry this Sunday on April 27th should be postponed until May 18th due to a number of reasons. Firstly, the airfield has asked that aircraft should arrive after 1330 and depart before 1630 due to the increased level of traffic caused by a sporting event locally. I consider this to be rather restrictive and certainly not the desired times that have been suggested by those people booking PPR. Secondly, due to the recent arrival of 3 engines for our Dragon Rapides (which are revenue earning aircraft and thus taking priority over the Chipmunk) the aircraft will not be able to fly on Sunday. Thirdly, the grass parking area that we would be using is currently very wet and there is more rain forecast for Sunday and finally several of the aircraft that were hoping to attend have reported in tech, the change of date may make it possible for them to attend.

I hope this has not caused to much inconvience. I figured it was better to take the decision now rather than leave it any later.

I hope to see as many of you as possible on the 18th.

All the best,

Dave

pictures of the chipmunk fly in and dakota farewell tour may 18 2008

Hi everyone.

I would like to thank everyone involved in the chipmunk fly-in and the staff and volunteers of the classic flight. I really enjoyed the day thank you.
I really liked the new layout of the fencing to let you get closer to the aircraft like the shack and the DC6.

here is the link to my pictures. I am sorry if they are not very good.

Thankyou Anthony I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I decided to change the layout of the fencing as it would give everybody a good look at the Chipmunks and create a defined space for them, this was only really possible though as the Shackleton was not engine running. I certainly plan to you use this layout for future events when were in the same situation with the Shack.

Lastly a big thankyou to all the Chipmunk'iers who took the time and effort to come I really appreciate it. I'll be posting some piccies later.

P.S - Great pictures Anthony.
