In a diesel car, the fuel has to be heated before you turn the ignition on, this makes the fuel burn more efficiently. I guess the fuel is continually heated throughout the time the engine is in operation, although you could just route the fuel lines via very hot parts of an engine and use the fuel as a cooling system aswell.

Waxing of diesel fuel has largely been eradicated over the last few years by chemical improvements. Airliners use fuel to cool the oil and at the same time the oil to warm the fuel so this process is probably also used in diesel cars.

Hi, great to see a new forum. I've got a question about these diesel engined Diamond machines that I keep seeing in the news pages - how come the fuel doesnt freeze? I was told that if you have a diesel car, sometimes the fuel can freeze and turn to jelly - surely this is a BAD thing in an airplane? So what does the designers do? Anyone got any ideas?
