Its Back, It’s Better, Its Caring, Its…….
The Jersey International Air Rally 2008

The Jersey International Air Rally will return after a year off.

The 2008 Rally has been set back by 1 month with the blessing of the new, very GA friendly, Airport Director, Julian Green.
It is now Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June 2008.
Hopefully we will miss the weather problems that often affect the Spring Bank Holiday.

In 2008 the competitions will most likely be similar (not to say we won’t surprise you all).

In 2008 you will have the choice to pre pay for the whole Rally package (the same as the previous Rallies, rooms in the Pomme d’Or Hotel and all requirements catered for) or simply to pay the Rally entrance fee, which includes all competitions, welcome drink on Friday on arrival, pre-dinner drink & prize-giving dinner on Saturday night (all entrants must attend this dinner).

The second option will allow entrants to select their own accommodation, whether they want to stay in a campsite or up to a 5star hotel.
We will give the tourism website link on the application form.

In 2005 we helped a young person with a flying scholarship for a PPL, now the recipient of this award is doing an aviation degree, including a CPL.

In 2008 the theme will be ‘Helping Hands’:
‘Helping Hands’ will create a fund to provide a day’s flying and entertainment for young underprivileged, terminally ill & handicapped children in the island of Jersey.
One of man’s earliest dreams was to fly.
Many of us are lucky to have realized that dream and now, we want to give the chance to these children to share our passion.

To raise the necessary funds, we will be selling lucky envelopes containing prizes before and during the air rally week end.
At the Saturday evening prize-giving dinner, we will be holding an auction.

We look forward to renewing old acquaintances and making new friends during the 2008 air rally.

Further updates can be found on the Aero Club Website,

and here on the forum as they occur.

RALLY UPDATE

Merry Christmas everyone.

It’s almost 2008 & the Rally is getting closer.

We will have an application form ready for the New Year and it will be put on the club website.

Below is the new press release:

JERSEY INTERNATIONAL AIR RALLY - 27th to 29th June 2008

Welcome to the 2008 Jersey International Air Rally.

After a year’s absence, the Jersey International Air Rally is back.

We have decided to try to beat the weather and have changed the dates to - Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June 2008. This, hopefully, will mean that the weather will be perfect and will enable you to enjoy the week end in our beautiful island in company of fellow pilots and friends.

Another change this year is choice – You will be able to choose from either the FULL rally package or the BASIC rally package:
The FULL package includes landing & facility fees, entry to all competitions, welcome drink & lunch on Friday, Friday night spectacular seafood buffet at the Pomme D’Or Hotel, Saturday morning car treasure hunt followed by Vin d’Honneur & lunch at the aero club, Saturday night gala dinner & dance. Your accommodation will be at the Pomme D’Or hotel with the offer of free accommodation for the Sunday night. Every aircraft will receive a souvenir plaque.
The BASIC package also includes landing & facility fees, entry to all competitions, welcome drink & lunch on Friday, Saturday morning car treasure hunt, Saturday night gala dinner & dance & souvenir plaque. But, you are free to choose your hotel (Jersey Tourism website – www.jersey.com) and of course join us for the Friday night and Saturday lunch. Those will have to be booked and paid for separately.

Jersey Airport are generously wavering the landing fees and the Club will not be charging the facility fee. So we have been able to keep the cost of the rally down to a minimum to try to encourage pilots to join in the fun of the competition and take time to explore Jersey.
Thank you to our sponsors.

In recent years we have linked the Air Rally with a deserving cause:

In 2005 with the help of rally competitors and JAC members, we raised enough money for a young Jersey student to complete her PPL.
Emma Dalton is now well on her way to becoming a commercial pilot!

This year our aim is different. We want to help young people less fortunate than us and hope to be able to offer a day’s flying and entertainment to those who otherwise may not be able to do so.
To enable us to do this, we are raising funds in different ways.
Winning envelopes – £5 each with a prize in each one.
Auction – We will be holding an auction on the Saturday night gala dinner
Donation – Any donations will be appreciated, whether a prize for the envelopes, a lot for the auction or a sum of money to be held in the Helping Hands account.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you all in Jersey, whether seasoned competitors or brand new PPL’s.

Happy flying!

The Rally Team.

I will keep you informed as more updates appear.

Have a Very Very Happy New Year and plenty of flying far and near.

Rally info update

Hello fellow fliers,

I have some interesting news for you all about the Rally:

We have a new venue for the lunch on the last day, Sunday 29 June;

Deauville

We have the airport restaurant booked, but we need a pre-booking from you to ensure you have a seat/s, if you do not book we will have to release our reservation for you.

Why not stop off at Deauville on the way home for Lunch?
A welcome break, fuel top up and possibly a new entry in your log book.

The reservations for the Pomme d’Or Hotel and Merton Hotel will be released by the 16th May after this time we cannot guarantee your room in either of these hotels.
It is a busy time of the year on the island & rooms fill up quickly, accommodation cannot be guaranteed over a weekend.
Please book this week to avoid disappointment.

The competition this year will be a challenge, even for our regular competitors, as it will be starting overhead Flers (no customs available) and there will be a mystery point on the French Coast (Even I don’t know this one).
Can’t wait!

His Excellency Lieutenant General Andrew Ridgeway, the Governor of Jersey, will be the Guest of Honour at the presentation Gala Dinner.

So far we have up to 26 entries with 18 confirmed, please do not leave it too late, we don’t want to disappoint you and, we would love to host you as one of 50 entries in the Rally.
Impossible? We did it for the 50th (25 in the last 2 weeks), so why not again.

Please look at our Website: www.jerseyaeroclub.com
You will find information about our Rally, the charitable theme ‘Helping Hands’, the special ‘Ultimate High’ and the club in general.

We will be featured in Flyer, so be sure to look out for us in this well read aviation magazine.

Finally, a local company, Kandidprints, will be taking pictures on arrival and throughout the week end – look out for them.

I now know I will be able to make it, look forward to seeing all of you there.

Happy Landings.

Jersey Air Rally 2008, still time to join us!

Hello Fellow Aviators,

An update of the rally.

We have only 1 month to go, a full programme, many entries (30+) and a team that can’t wait to look after you!

We have entries from England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, Belgium and Sweden, plus an attendee (not competing) from Indonesia.

Why don’t we have entries from Holland, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark & Norway? Or more entries from countries already mentioned. Is it the challenge appears too tough?
There are many prizes, so a good chance you could win. Even if not, you will most likely have one of the best weekends ever.

If you want to attend but were not able to decide until now, all is not lost:
There is still time to join; we can still get you into probably the best Rally in Northern Europe.

For the full package (accommodation included) entries, unfortunately we cannot guarantee accommodation at the Pomme d’Or or the Merton any more; having said this, we will try our best to get you in.

The programme (Hard Copy will be sent to all entrants first week of June) and all other information, including the application form are available on our website;

http://www.jerseyaeroclub.com/content/view/31/57/

This is the first page for the Rally, click ‘Next’ and you will find most of the information you need.

Don’t forget our Lunch in Deauville on Sunday 29th June;
it is only €20 per person.
Please make a confirmed booking with Eveline by Friday June 20, after this time we cannot get you in.

On Friday, Lunch in the Club’s Millibar, we will be serving a Ploughman’s lunch with a well deserved welcome drink when you come back from the competition.

Friday Dinner will be a ‘Seafood Exravaganza’ in the Pomme d’ Or Hotel.

Saturday Lunch, also at the Millibar, will be a Pig Roast, preceded by a Vin d’Honneur.

The Gala Presentation Dinner on Saturday Night will be in the Pomme d’Or Hotel, until the early hours.

Finally; our farewell lunch on Sunday in Deauville, perfect for the first stop on your way home after a rewarding and ‘prize winning’ weekend of fun & flying.

Hope to see you all there soon.

Only 3.5 weeks to go

Hello Fellow Flyers,

We have now only a few days to go.

We also have a firm entry deadline;

Anyone who wants to take part are more than welcome, however we cannot guarantee accommodation; there are a few spaces at the Merton hotel, but the Pomme d’Or is now full, we would still try to get rooms there after the hotel receives cancellations.

If you can get firm accommodation yourselves, it might be advisable to book it yourselves and enter the Rally without the accommodation package.

An Apology

For all past, present and future Rally attendees.

“Rally 2008”

We have an apology for Rally 4 in the distance trophy award.

Rally 4 flew from LFBU to EGJJ via LFCM & LFRD, a distance of over 700NM,

Unfortunately, due to an administration error upon their arrival, the competition judges did not receive the journey’s information to mark their entry.

After reviewing Rally 4‘s case, it became obvious that they were the team which travelled the furthest to attend the 2008 Jersey International Air Rally and are therefore the winners of the TOM CLARK TROPHY for RANGE and ENDURANCE.
The Rally Team and the Jersey Aero Club apologise for this error and hope all who attended the Rally will join us in applauding the effort made by Rally 4 to get to Jersey despite the poor weather experienced at the weekend.

We look forward to seeing Rally 4 in the 2009 Rally.

Eveline and the Rally Team.

See you next year
