La revista "The Aeroplane and Commercial Aviation News", en su número del 4 de octubre de 1962, publicó las primeras fotos del avión de pasajeros que se vieron públicamente en Occidente

Photographs of the new Russian airliner, the Ilyushin 62, show the similarity of the layout to the VC10. These photographs show the four rear-mounted turbojets and the high tailplane position. Abandoned in favour of a nose radome is the “bomb-aimer’s window” of Tupolev designs. In this respect the new aircraft follows Ilyushin practice and is reminiscent of the earlier Il-18.
