A collection of the distinctive rotorcraft associated with the late Wg Cdr Ken Wallis has been relocated
At the end of last year, Wallis Heritage Limited – the guardians of the late Wg Cdr Ken Wallis’ famed collection of autogyros – announced that most of the aircraft had been relocated from Old Warden in Bedfordshire, to “a new, safe home in Cambridgeshire, where restoration has already begun.”
In all 17 machines have been moved from Old Warden where they had been in storage since 2014. Wg Cdr Wallis, who flew 28 bomber missions over Germany during World War Two, went on to become perhaps the world’s leading exponent of autogyros. He earned 34 world records and still retained eight of them at the time of his death in 2013. He produced them, in his own words, for "reconnaissance, research and development, surveillance and military purposes".
Notably, Wallis worked as Sean Connery's stunt pilot in the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice, in which he flew one of his WA-116 autogyros named Little Nellie.
