BOMBER SHOW OF FORCE

All three aircraft types of the USAF’s bomber force recently deployed to RAF Fairford. Aaron Paxton of Aviation in Action reports on this impressive gathering of air power.

In June RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, hosted simultaneous deployments of the Boeing B-52H Stratofortress, Rockwell B-1B Lancer and Northrop Grumman B-2A Spirit – the first time all three bombers had been in the European theatre together. Their presence was a statement to NATO allies and other nations according to the US Acting Ambassador, Lewis Lukens, who said at a media event at the base: ‘‘This deployment of strategic bombers to the United Kingdom is a clear demonstration of enduring commitment to our NATO allies and to deter further aggression in the region.’’
