February’s arrival of a C-5 Galaxy at Riga International Airport, Latvia, with a pair of UH-60 Black Hawks aboard marked the start of a nine-month deployment for the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade to eastern Europe in support of Operation ‘Atlantic Resolve’.

SINCE THE UKRAINIAN territory of Crimea was annexed by Russia in March 2014, the US military has been engaged in Operation ‘Atlantic Resolve’ (OAR), a demonstration of commitment to security in the region, designed to reassure NATO allies and partners of America’s dedication to peace and stability. The physical result is a series of US military deployments from all services, to offer enhanced multi-national training and security co-operation activities with allies in eastern Europe.
