Noel Felix Perris was born in Chiswick, London, on Christmas Day in 1894, the only son of Mary and George Perris. His first name was inspired by the day of his birth, and his second – Felix – was given to him in honour of one of his father’s friends, the Russian political exile Feliks Volkhovsky.
