Run by TAG Aviation, Farnborough Airport is now Europe’s leading centre for business jet operations. Its current role could hardly present a more contrasting image than that facing curious onlookers on Farnborough Common in October 1908, when Samuel F Cody made the first successful flight in the UK of a powered, controlled, heavier-thanair flying machine.
