TALES FROM THE LOGBOOK...
Gerry Manning enjoyed a memorable trip to Latin America in 2003 with Ian Allan Aviation Tours. In this first part, the group sample some of the aeronautical delights of Argentina and Uruguay.
Our group assembled in Terminal 2 at London’s Heathrow Airport with our first flight on Iberia Boeing 757-256, EC-GZY, to Madrid. On arrival, we exited the aircraft down steps into the warm, early evening air and were bussed to the terminal. Soon after we boarded Air Atlanta Icelandic Boeing 747-341, TF-ATJ, which was to operate our Iberia flight to Buenos Aires.
After 12 hours in the air, we touched down in Argentina on the morning of Wednesday, October 13, 2003 at the capital’s Ministro Pistarini International Airport. After a relatively quick transit through the terminal, the group emerged to find our local guide, Mario, holding an Ian Allan sign – a coach was waiting to take us the 22 miles (35km) to the excellent Bristol Hotel in the city centre.
