They are among the most critical components on any aircraft and require constant care and attention – tyres, brakes and wheels demand specialised maintenance to mitigate the stresses of flight. Ian Harbison speaks with Frank Rott, global MRO director at TP Aerospace, to find out more.

On an ordinary car, wheels, brakes and tyres are usually taken for granted. Some owners might change to winter tyres if appropriate, but generally speaking these items are permanent fixtures until something goes wrong or a regular inspection shows they need to be replaced. However, on an aircraft, they require frequent maintenance to the extent that there are specialist maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities dedicated to their upkeep. One of these is TP Aerospace, which is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, and has a network of ten such stations dotted across the globe.
