Airport profile: Teesside International

Recent turbulence in the aviation sector hasn’t slowed the progress of an impressive turnaround at Teesside International Airport as Chris Smith discovers

As airlines have trimmed schedules and cancelled flights during the COVID-19 pandemic, airports around the globe have seen passenger footfall plummet and revenues shrink. Against all odds, and in the face of such adversity, the fortunes of one regional gateway in the UK have turned for the better. Teesside International Airport is riding on the crest of a wave and it shows no signs of abating

anytime soon. The facility was taken back into public ownership a couple of years ago, which nowadays is an oddity in itself. Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen shared this remarkable story with Airports of the World as well as his vision for the site, which has seen the pandemic coinciding with the start of a halcyon period for the complex.
