VULTURE ROUND-THE-WORLD FLIGHT
To remember the final stages of her grandfather’s round-the-world flight attempt in 1924, Vanessa Ascough made a truly sentimental journey to see the propeller of his Vickers Vulture in the officers’ mess at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, British Columbia
My grandfather, Sqn Ldr Archibald Stuart Charles Stuart-MacLaren OBE MC DFC AFC, was one of the most distinguished and promising RAF officers of his generation. Born in 1892, after World War One he completed many longdistance flights, including the first from England to Egypt and another from Ipswich to India in a Handley Page V/1500, as well as laying down a number of the earliest air mail routes across the world.
